Planning a trip with loved ones? Your Cathay membership has you covered with our new family benefits. For 25 years, you’ve been sharing the joy of travel as you earn and burn Asia Miles together – and now, you can transfer miles from minor to guardian for free for an even more elevated journey.

Whether you’re planning a quick weekend getaway or embarking on a big summer holiday, you can earn even more rewards when the whole family is flying with a Cathay membership. Follow these simple steps before you travel so you can worry less about the logistics and spend more time planning fun holiday activities. 

Link your accounts to accumulate more miles

If your child is aged between 2 and 17, sign them up for a Cathay membership. Next, add your guardian membership information to your own account, so that you can link it to your child’s, and add them as a Redemption Group nominee. You should be listed as a Redemption Group nominee on their account, too.  

One guardian can receive miles from up to five minors. In order to reap the benefits of this new membership perk, each minor must have been a Cathay member for at least a year. Once 18, your children will no longer be eligible to transfer Asia Miles to a guardian for free, and your information will be automatically removed from their account.  

Don’t let miles go to waste

While there may be the occasional reason for children to fly solo, your little ones likely won’t be travelling the globe without you too often. This means they’ll have accumulated lots of miles they won’t use themselves. When you group your Asia Miles together and share the rewards, everyone in the family benefits – which means unused miles won’t sit in your child's membership account for extended periods of time. 

You can transfer a value of between 2,000 and 120,000 from a minor to a guardian per transaction, and a guardian can receive up to 120,000 from their minor each membership year for free – so then your only issue is how to spend all these extra miles. Whether you want to put them towards a flight, hotel stay, shopping spree, or unique dining experience, there’s no shortage of options for you.
