Think Premium Economy is just a few extra inches of legroom? There’s far more to it than that – particularly on board our Boeing 777-300ER.
“If you look at the industry, Premium Economy has historically been seen as a mere extension of Economy: a seat with a slightly wider pitch and a little bit more space,” says Vivian Lo, General Manager Customer Experience & Design at Cathay. “For our Boeing 777-300ER, we have a very clear goal, which is to design Premium Economy as a cabin that thrives on its own merits – a product that reflects the customer’s needs and the premium differentiation.”
From this year, 38 of our Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will undergo a significant transformation – with entirely new Business and Premium Economy cabins, as well as a refreshed Economy. To achieve this, our Customer Experience & Design team joined forces with longstanding partners JPA Design to create interiors tailored to your needs – a truly “human-centric environment,” says Elliott Koehler, Creative Director at JPA Design.
In the case of Premium Economy, that means bring you ore of what matters to you. From fabric to finishes, we’ve paid meticulous attention to every detail, right down to the very last thread. “Each seat features bespoke textiles – you wouldn’t believe how many different swatches we scrutinised,” says Koehler. “All to ensure that every seat offers an exceptional level of comfort.” A generous recline and legroom and a supportive calf- and footrest ensure you’ll enjoy your journey from take-off to landing.
Privacy was also a priority in the seat design. Innovative wings near the headrest create a greater sense of personal space, and an integrated reading light allows you to customise your experience while minimising disturbance to fellow passengers. Smart stowage options help to keep your personal devices and travel essentials within easy reach.
“Our objective from the beginning was to differentiate through premium designs while thoughtfully incorporating technology,” says Lo. Upgraded 15.6-inch 4K monitors now grace each seat, offering new helpful features such as real-time lavatory occupancy updates and, soon, the ability to sync your inflight entertainment with your travel companion’s. Bluetooth audio connectivity creates an immersive experience by allowing you to connect to your personal headphones.
Thoughtful design doesn’t stop at the seat. Our new Premium Economy cabin boasts two dedicated lavatories – one on each side of the aircraft – equipped with touch-free features to minimise contact, ensuring your peace of mind.
The overhaul is part of a larger plan to remain at the forefront of design and innovation. “Our ambition is to be one of the best premium airlines,” says Lo. “That’s why we’ve created a Premium Economy experience that brings you more – more comfort, more privacy and more space – so you can indulge and relax on your long-haul journey.”
With the new Boeing 777-300ER cabins taking flight this year, there’s even more to look forward to on your next adventure.
