If you love exploring Hong Kong’s lively dining scene but hate leaving your furry friend at home, we have some great news: the city has a fantastic, ever-evolving food scene for pets, too. 

Restaurants across the city are throwing open their doors to fuzzy guests, launching exclusive pet menus, and in some instances, even centring their entire dining experience around your four-legged friends. Just bear in mind that most places will ask you to keep your pet leashed and on their best behaviour to avoid disrupting fellow customers.

From beachside getaways to Soho standouts, these are the best dog-friendly restaurants to bark – er – book. 

Barkada

Barkada co-founder Jen Balisi regularly shares photos of her adorable dog on Instagram, so it comes as little surprise that her modern Filipino eatery welcomes all four-pawed diners. Tucked underneath the Mid-Levels Escalator, the Singular Concepts restaurant has even been known to throw the occasional Block Pawty – serving bar snacks and cocktails for humans, and longanisa-inspired sausage treats for dogs. 

If you’ve never had Filipino food before, this is the place to try it – highlights include the moreish adobo popcorn chicken, sizzling sisig and gigantic crispy pata ideal for sharing. Plus, there’s a wide range of options for vegetarians, too.

Repulse Bay's beachfront mall The Pulse is full of pet-friendly destinations, but Sip Song is amongst the best of them – especially since it has its own dedicated dog menu. While humans can tuck into spicy satays, refreshing papaya salad, grilled fish drizzled with lime chilli and all the best-loved Thai classics, dogs can chow down on specially prepared rice bowls and peanut butter biscuits. 

With a colourful location on the boardwalk, an irresistible cocktail list and views of the waves rolling to shore, Sip Song is the ultimate lazy weekend spot for you and your furry companion. However just bear in mind that pets are only allowed on their al fresco tables, so it’s not the best spot to go with a big group or when it’s raining.

Ăn Chơi

If you’ve ever wanted to take your pet on holiday, pay a visit to Ăn Chơi ; this Vietnamese restaurant is as close as you’ll get to exploring Vietnam’s roadside eateries with your canine pal without jumping on a plane.

Step inside the lemon-yellow interior strewn with fairy lights and red plastic chairs and you’ll find friendly service and a killer happy hour. Though you won’t find a special menu for your pets, they are welcome to join you while you and your other two-legged friends dine on freshly baked banh mis and steaming bowls of noodle soup. Plus, vegans and vegetarians don’t have to worry, as Ăn Chơi champions jackfruit as a meat substitution across its menu.

Classified

Looking for a laidback bistro? With alfresco seating at various locations around Hong Kong, Classified features a welcoming environment for your pet to chill out in while you catch up with a pal over a meal. From burrata and  canteloupe salads to Korean fried chicken, their menu is suited to all tastes – and also features a fantastic happy hour you’ll want to get involved with.

This sprawling Sai Kung restaurant truly puts dogs first. With an expansive dog menu, chic pet boutique and even a doggy spa, it offers the ultimate day out for pet owners looking to spoil their pup. If your dog can dream it, you better believe it’s here: a pick ‘n’ mix treats area, tiny neon baseball caps, and even dog-friendly ice cream. 

While their pets are pampered, humans can enjoy Thai or Western dishes in the airy restaurant area. Combine your visit with a stay at the pet-friendly WM Hotel next door and you’ve got the ideal pet-friendly weekend.

Flying Pig Bistro

Craving something hearty? This Sai Ying Pun restaurant is a carnivore’s dream. While it serves a mean steak and some must-try Polish dishes, Flying Pig champions all things pork, with a dedicated “piggy section” on its menu and even black pudding up for grabs. 

This cosy and bright spot welcomes pets, and you’re likely to see them with the brunch crowd on weekends, gazing balefully upwards as their owners tuck into fry-ups and plates of eggs benedict. Best of all, this restaurant is on Sai Ying Pun’s buzzy high street, so there’s always an eye-catching boutique or coffee shop to nip into afterwards.

Hooman by the Sea

West Kowloon Art Park is making a name for itself as a pet-friendly destination and that’s in no small part thanks to Hooman by the Sea . Surrounded by green lawns where your pet can run around, this café specialises in creative hotdogs, with each variation named after a dog breed. 

Traditionalists should gun for the chihuahua, a frankfurter loaded with mustard, cheese, ketchup and bacon bits, while more adventurous types can opt for the golden retriever: a seafood tiger prawn tempura loaded with crispy garlic and corn salsa. As a bonus, the café’s doughnut-crowned milkshakes will light up your social media, as will the stunning view of Victoria Harbour.
