Each additional piece can:

  • Weigh up to 32kg / 70lbs
  • Within size up to 158cm / 62in in total dimension
  • Any extra baggage over 158cm / 62in (up to maximum of 203cm / 80in) in total dimension will be subject to an oversize charge
Premium Economy and Economy

Each additional piece can:

  • Weigh up to 23kg / 50lbs
  • Within size up to 158cm / 62in in total dimension
  • Any extra baggage over 23kg / 50lbs (up to max of 32kg / 70lbs) will be subject to an overweight charge
  • Any extra baggage over 158cm / 62in (up to maximum of 203cm / 80in) in total dimension will be subject to an oversize charge

We cannot accept any baggage over the maximum weight of 32kg / 70lbs and 203cm / 80in in total dimension. Your bag’s total dimension is the sum of its width, height and length.

Items that exceed the agreed size must be repacked into split-up units, otherwise they will not be accepted on the flight. To avoid disappointment, please contact Customer Care at least three working days before you fly if your bag is oversized and/or overweight.

Special arrangements can be made for sporting equipment, musical instruments, travelling with pets, mobility aids, medical equipment and diplomatic baggage.

  1. If your ticketed baggage allowance is by piece and you bring more than your allowed number of piece or any extra pieces that results from repacking, there will be an extra baggage charge.

  2. Please note that the weight of any single bag must not be over 32kg / 70lbs, and its total dimension (the sum of its width, height and length) must not exceed 203cm / 80in in length without prior approval from Cathay Pacific.

    Please contact Customer Care at least 3 working days if your bag cannot be split and you need to travel with a bag this large.
  1. These terms and conditions apply to Cathay Pacific Airways Limited (“Cathay Pacific”) for Regular Extra Baggage (as defined below) offered on flights marketed and operated by Cathay Pacific. By purchasing Regular Extra Baggage, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
  2. In these terms and conditions:
    • “Prepaid Extra Baggage” means additional baggage allowance purchased by a passenger no later than 24 hours before the scheduled departure time, via Cathay Pacific’s website, mobile app, or Customer Care, at a discounted rate. For details, please refer to Prepaid Extra Baggage | Travel Extras | Cathay Pacific.
    • “Regular Extra Baggage” means additional baggage allowance purchased by a passenger via Cathay Pacific’s website or mobile app less than 24 hours and at least 1 hour before the scheduled departure time, at a standard rate. For details, please refer to Extra baggage charges | Cathay Pacific.
  3. Regular Extra Baggage is only available to passengers (hereinafter referred to as “passenger”, “you” or “your”) who meet all the following criteria:
    • Hold a ticket issued by Cathay Pacific (ticket number beginning with 160);
    • Have all flights in the booking marketed and operated by Cathay Pacific;
    • Travel on selected routes (same as mentioned for Prepaid Extra Baggage).

      Details of the selected routes are available at Prepaid Extra Baggage | Travel Extras | Cathay Pacific.
  4. Passengers who meet the criteria in paragraph 3 will be eligible to purchase Regular Extra Baggage at the standard charges.
  5. Regular Extra Baggage cannot be purchased for individual connecting flights and must be purchased for each checked-in portion (i.e., the full one-way journey) of your booking.
  6. Purchases of Regular Extra Baggage must be made at least 1 hour prior to the scheduled departure time of the first flight of each checked-in portion of your booking.
  7. Any Regular Extra Baggage allowance that has been prepaid will be subject to Cathay Pacific’s baggage size and weight limits. For details, please refer to Extra baggage charges | Cathay Pacific. Cathay Pacific will not accept any baggage that exceeds these limits.
  8. Regular Extra Baggage is not available for the following booking/ticket types:
    • On hold bookings
    • Tickets for infants who do not occupy a seat
    • Tickets for extra seats booked for the same passenger
    • Group tickets
    • Industry and agency discounted tickets
    • Tickets issued by other airlines
  9. Regular Extra Baggage is not available in the following circumstances:
    • Journeys to or from India;
    • Journeys to Manila during the period from 1 December to 31 December;
    • Multi-city or stopover itineraries to or from the United States or Canada.
  10. Passengers may not purchase Regular Extra Baggage to cover charges associated with diplomatic bags.
  11. Regular Extra Baggage is non-transferable. If a passenger rebooks the flight/date on the same route at least 24 hours prior to the new scheduled departure time, Regular Extra Baggage can be transferred to the new flight/date. Regular Extra Baggage cannot be transferred to another origin, destination, booking, or passenger, and will be treated as forfeited if attempted.
  12. In the event of involuntary flight changes, the Regular Extra Baggage allowance will be transferred to the new flight operated by Cathay Pacific.
  13. Regular Extra Baggage is non-refundable except in the following scenarios:
    • Flight is cancelled by Cathay Pacific.
    • Passenger upgrades to a higher cabin using Asia Miles, bookable upgrade, or by paying the fare difference on the same route.
    • Passenger rebooks from Economy Light fares to Economy Essential fares or Economy Flex fares on the same route.
    • Passenger rebooks to another flight/date on the same route which falls within the blackout period.
    • Cathay Pacific rebooks the passenger onto a flight operated by another airline.
  14. To request a refund, passengers must contact Customer Care within 30 days from the original departure date of the flight for which the Regular Extra Baggage was purchased.
  15. If Cathay Pacific determines that the passenger is eligible for a refund, such refund will be made in the original form of payment and currency used. If purchased with Miles Plus Cash, any used portion will first be deducted from the cash portion, then from the Miles portion at the same redemption rate. Remaining cash or Miles will be refunded accordingly. Any refunded Miles will be returned to your Cathay membership account.

    “Miles Plus Cash” has the same meaning as in Cathay Pacific’s Online Booking/Mobile Booking terms and conditions.
  16. If you cancel your booking or check in less baggage than your purchased allowance, the unused portion is non-refundable and non-transferable.
  17. Upon check-in, if your total baggage allowance (including purchased Regular Extra Baggage and original ticket allowance) is exceeded, standard charges will apply at the airport counter.
  18. Carriage of Regular Extra Baggage is subject to Cathay Pacific’s general conditions of carriage and conditions of contract. Passengers must comply with restrictions on prohibited and unacceptable items.
  19. Cathay Pacific reserves the right to refuse carriage of baggage for any reason according to Controlled and banned items. Any refusal of prepaid baggage will not entitle the passenger to a refund.
  20. Regular Extra Baggage will, whenever possible, be carried on the same aircraft as you, unless safety, security, or operational reasons require carriage on another flight. If carried on a subsequent flight, Cathay Pacific will deliver it unless law requires you to clear customs personally.
  21. Amounts paid for Regular Extra Baggage are not eligible for earning Asia Miles.
  22. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cathay Pacific reserves the right to change eligible routes/flights and related charges for Regular Extra Baggage.
  23. These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Hong Kong. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these terms and conditions shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hong Kong.
  24. In case of any discrepancies between the English version and any translated version of these terms and conditions, the English version shall prevail.

*Please note Miles Plus Cash payments are not available for:

  • Purchases made at airports in India and Nepal
  • Extra baggage purchases on certain itineraries involving flights marketed by other airlines
  • Overweight charges for baggage over 32kg / 70lbs
  • Oversized baggage charges
