    Changes to Status Points and Asia Miles earnings on flights

    Learn how these updates will influence your upcoming journeys 

    At Cathay, we’re committed to enhancing your membership experience. As part of our latest regular updates, we're refining our distance zones and adjusting Status Points and Asia Miles you can earn for Cathay Pacific flights, with some increases and decreases. These updates allow you to enjoy greater rewards with some of our flexible fare types and premium cabins, providing greater recognition for your travel choices. 

    The updates will take effect for flight bookings departing on and from 20 August 2025. 

    By opting for Economy Essential or Economy Flex fares, you unlock free seat selection, the ability to upgrade with Asia Miles, and a greater baggage allowance, allowing you to elevate your travel experience and get closer to the next membership status. 

    Take a look at the tables below to see the new Status Points and Asia Miles earnings and distance zones. Our Status Points and Asia Miles calculator will continue to reflect the Status Points and Asia Miles earnings that are currently effective, and will be automatically updated with the new earnings on 20 August 2025.

    + indicates an increase in Status Points and Asia Miles earnings

    Your Status Points and Asia Miles earnings will continue to be calculated based on a combination of factors including airline, cabin, fare class or fare type, and distance travelled. This update changes the Status Points and Asia Miles earned on flights marketed by Cathay Pacific only. Status Points and Asia Miles earned on flights marketed by oneworld and partner airlines will remain unchanged. The new earnings and distance zones will come into effect for flight departures on or after 20 August 2025.

    Improving your journey

    Refining distance zones

    We’re adjusting our distance zones to provide more options for you to earn Status Points and Asia Miles on your travels. Please see the changes below: 

    • Routes between 751 and 2,750 miles will be categorised into two distance zones: Short-Type 1 and Short-Type 2 
      • Short-Type 2 includes routes between 751 and 2,750 miles to or from Japan, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and India 
      • Short-Type 1 includes routes between 751 and 2,750 miles to other destinations 
    • Routes between 2,751 and 5,000 miles will be categorised into one distance zone: Medium 

    The new distance zones are further illustrated in the table below. The distance zones are based on miles flown between Hong Kong and the destinations.

    A smooth transition

    Arrangement for tickets booked before 20 August 2025

    As we implement these changes, we’ll ensure a seamless transition that allows you to earn the rewards you deserve. You will earn Status Points and Asia Miles based on your ticket issuance date and departure date. The following describes how your Status Points and Asia Miles for flights booked before and after 20 August 2025 will be handled: 

    • If your flight departs before 20 August 2025, you will earn Status Points and Asia Miles under the existing earnings.  
    • If your ticket is issued before 20 August 2025 for flights departing on or after that date, you will earn Status Points and Asia Miles based on either the existing or new earnings on flights, whichever is higher. Please allow up to 30 calendar days after your flight for any shortfall adjustments to be made, if applicable. This will be handled by our team without you needing to take any action.
    • If your ticket is issued on or after 20 August 2025, Status Points and Asia Miles under the new earnings will be automatically credited to your account after your flight.
