With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, Hong Kong is most definitely in the mood for love. And with a host of romantic restaurant tasting menus, hotel offers and more, there’s something for every couple this season. To help you choose, we’ve put together a list of unforgettable date ideas sure to leave a lasting impression – from elaborate dinners to tranquil island getaways.

Fine dining

Hong Kong is home to a dynamic culinary scene, and if there’s ever a time to splash out on a fancy meal, Valentine’s Day is it. Fortunately, there’s no shortage of places boasting elaborate tasting menus and wines to keep conversation flowing.

Michelin-starred Estro  honours Italian fine dining in an intimate Central space. It’s helmed by Neapolitan chef Antimo Maria Merone, so expect umami-rich pannacottas topped with red prawns and caviar, buffalo robiola-stuffed bottoni pasta parcels and a choice between wagyu or venison for mains, with the option of wine pairing.

Meanwhile, Bo Innovation , led by famed Demon Chef Alvin Leung, claims to be Hong Kong’s most affordable two Michelin-starred restaurant and champions Chinese flavours in an eclectic art-filled setting. Treat yourselves to the Feast of the 9,  which features memorable dishes like strawberry hoi sin suckling pig and lobster served in a buttery mussel-rich sauce, with a refreshing hit of lychee and cucumber.

End the night with a cocktail at Mizunara The Library, The Savoury Project or World’s Best Bar-winner Bar Leone (if you can snag a seat). Discover even more with our list of partner restaurants, where you can earn Asia Miles while romancing your loved one over a meal.

Island adventure

Hop on a ferry and explore a different side of Hong Kong. While Cheung Chau is always a winner, it can get busy, especially on weekends. Instead, head to one of the city’s lesser known islands for a laidback date in nature. Spend the day hiking Po Toi and taking in its natural marvels like Tortoise and Monk Rocks, before a well-deserved fresh seafood lunch.

On Peng Chau, get lost in its charming criss-crossed streets and take your time to discover the island. Whether you’re stumbling into its many temples or the gloriously chaotic Leather Factory – a former historic building, transformed into an artistic secret garden – there's something delighfully unexpected around every corner.

Peaceful Tap Mun, also known as Grass Island, is the perfect spot to relax on its grassy hillsides and cuddle up as you watch the sun set and the stars appear.

A staycation

Sometimes a change of scenery is all you need to set the mood and Hong Kong is home to many luxury boltholes. The Upper House, tucked away in Admiralty, boasts chic, spacious suites with views of the skyline – best enjoyed from its restaurant, Salisterra, and bar Green Room. Back in your room, the large bathtub is stocked with all your favourite amenities, and promises to soak your stresses away.

For those looking to go further afield, WM Hotel is a stunning launchpad to explore Sai Kung, with sleek rooms featuring rooftop gardens and terraces facing the seafront. Best of all, the hotel is dog-friendly. Sai Kung Pier is also a short walk away, so you can easily hop on a sampan to the nearby islands, including Tap Mun.

The Peninsula, Hong Kong’s grand dame, continues to top hotel lists with its decadent old-world charm, cutting-edge spas and even helicopter flights over the harbour to take your romance quite literally to the skies.

Learn something new together

If you know where to look, the city is filled with rewarding creative workshops – ideal for making a romantic Valentine’s Day gift together. At Obellery Studio  in PMQ, you can craft your own piece of jewellery – from rings to brass pendants – in their intimate workshops.

For flowers, skip the last-minute grocery-store roses and head to a Floral Jamming workshop  with Bon Art, where you can craft elaborate lantern, gift box and traditional bouquet designs together in the heart of Tai Kwun. Alternatively, practice your penmanship and upgrade your love letter game with a calligraphy class at Kalo Make Art , offering both group and personal classes where you’ll learn dip, brush and watercolour penmanship.

Head to a theme park

A day at Hong Kong Disneyland or Ocean Park never fails, with both parks setting up events and decorations in the past to sweeten the day for couples. At Disneyland, join Mickey, Buzz Lightyear and the Marvel superheroes on rides and character experiences throughout the park, while stopping off for themed snacks, gifts and high energy musical performances.

Over at Ocean Park, discover an underwater world at its aquariums and tranquil Goldfish Treasures area, designed to feel like stepping into a Chinese treasure box. For thrill seekers, grab a front-row seat on one of the park’s adrenaline-pumping rides, like the Hair Raiser and Crazy Galleon. Want to upgrade your experience? Both parks boast a number of hotels with themed rooms, easy access to the grounds and special perks, such as complimentary park tickets, shopping and dining discount vouchers and more.
