The luxury hotel market has bounced back with a vengeance in the past year, with a flurry of high-profile openings creating a welcome buzz in the world of travel. And thanks to the recent boom in tourism, the pace of development remains unabated, with plenty more hotel openings on the horizon.
For those of you planning your next adventure, here are eight of the most anticipated hotel launches to come in summer 2024 and beyond.
Not content with operating one of the best hotels in London, the Hong Kong-based hospitality group is opening its second property in the British capital this summer. Located in the historic Hanover Square, the newly built Mandarin Oriental Mayfair has 50 rooms and suites, many featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and de Gournay hand-painted silk wallpaper. Korean-American chef Akira Back, known for his modern takes on Japanese cuisine, will oversee the hotel’s two restaurants, bar and rooftop venue. And the spa, complete with a 25m indoor pool, will be among the city's finest.

Upper East Side landmark The Surrey – once host to the likes of former American president John F Kennedy and actress Bette Davis – is reopening this year following a major three-year renovation. The nearly 100-year-old property, now managed by Corinthia Hotels, is within walking distance of Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the swanky boutiques of Fifth and Madison Avenues. Current interior design darling Martin Brudnizki is overseeing the redesign of the 100 rooms and suites. Meanwhile, celebrity favourite Casa Tua will bring its glittery brand of Italy via Miami cuisine and nightlife to old world New York.

One of the year’s most anticipated hotels, Aman Nai Lert Bangkok , is opening this autumn. This 36-storey ultra-luxe urban oasis is surrounded by lush tropical gardens within the city’s premier retail and embassy district. Architect Jean-Michel Gathy, who has designed several of the best hotels in the world, including Aman New York, brings his signature minimalist aesthetic to the 52-suite property. Guests can expect a top-of-the-line spa and an infinity pool with city views. Dining will come in the form of Japanese omakase and teppanyaki restaurants, and Italian eatery Arva, plus a jazz bar for entertainment.

The gritty inner-city suburb of Redfern has undergone a remarkable transformation from a no-go zone to one of Sydney’s most happening neighbourhoods. Its appeal will be further heightened with the opening of The Eve in Q4 of 2024. With brick exteriors and arched windows, this 102-room, low-rise boutique hotel will be the anchor development at the new lifestyle, retail, and entertainment precinct of Wunderlich Lane. Highlights include a landscaped rooftop garden and deck, swimming pool, and glass-roofed restaurant and bar, with the architecture, interiors and landscaping a showcase of local design talent.

It’s hard to imagine that the legendary, now landlocked Raffles hotel was once a beachfront property when it opened in 1887. Inspired by its seaside past, Raffles Sentosa will open by year’s end on Tanjong Beach, Sentosa Island, a mere 20-minutes’ drive away from the original. Set among 25 acres of tropical greenery, space will not be an issue at the 62-key, all-villa resort. Designed by Yabu Pushelberg, the smallest accommodation will measure a generous 260sqm, accompanied by villas featuring private plunge pools, garden terraces and views of the South China Sea. The property will boast six on-site restaurants alongside a science-based regenerative wellness spa.

The once sleepy surfer enclave of Canggu is now influencer-central, thanks to the multitude of restaurants, bars and shops that have opened in the area. Promising respite from the hustle and bustle is the beachfront Regent Canggu , opening this summer. A soaring timber and stone lobby embodies the property’s contemporary Balinese design. Its 150 rooms and accommodations range from garden and ocean view suites to penthouses and villas with their own pools (not that there will be shortage of these, with six public swimming pools scattered around the resort). Headlining the culinary offerings will be Cure Nua Villa and Sazón, both curated by acclaimed Singapore-based Irish chef Andrew Walsh.
Opening: autumn/winter 2024
With ambitions to become the best hotel in Taiwan China, Capella Taipei will open by year’s end on tree-lined Dunhua North Road. Star Hong Kong architect and interiors wizard Andre Fu will infuse his inimitable style of elegant luxury into this “urban retreat within a modern mansion”, with the promise of panoramic views of the city from its 86 rooms and suites. Three restaurants – French, Cantonese and Japanese – are in the pipeline, as is a patisserie and two-storey destination bar. A spa with four treatment rooms, fitness studio and outdoor heated pool round out the wellness offerings.

Dubai likes to do things big and Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab is no exception. Inspired by superyachts, this mammoth beachfront property will be the latest in a string of notable luxury hotel openings in the emirate, including The Lana by Dorchester Collection and One&Only One Za’abeel. The resort’s 390 rooms, suites and penthouses are surprisingly demure, especially compared to iconic sibling Burj Al Arab, which sits just across the bay and wins the prize for bling. Marsa Al Arab will house 10 restaurants and bars, multiple swimming pools, an expansive three-storey spa, landscaped gardens with fountains, and access to one of the city’s best private beaches.
