Ranked 2nd in the list of the World’s 50 Best Bars, Bar Leone , tucked away in a quiet corner of Sheung Wan, serves perfectly crafted classic cocktails. Its charming interiors (and unmissable mortadella sandwiches) transport you straight from Hong Kong to the heart of Rome. The secret sauce here is in the bar’s exceptional, friendly service that keeps customers coming back for more.
On any given night in Soho, you’ll find people congregating both in and around Bourke’s . This Peel Street bar occupies the space where legendary bar Shady Acres used to be, until its management debuted a new, grown-up concept inspired by the bars you find in Melbourne. It keeps things simple, delivering great wine, great cocktails and great food in a fun and unpretentious atmosphere.
You’re spoiled for choice when it comes to bars with a view in Hong Kong, but Cardinal Point stands out for its incredible skyline vista, so close you feel as though you could touch the buildings. It gets buzzy on the weekends, when revellers sip on cocktails inspired by tropical adventures. Try the Coconut Old Fashioned made with Okinawan black sugar, or the Glass Margarita infused with tomato, watermelon and Thai chillies.
The first Hong Kong bar in legendary bartender Shingo Gokan’s global portfolio, the eponymous Gokan brings Japanese precision to Hong Kong’s nightlife scene. In this venture, Gokan leans into the meaning behind his name, which translates to “five senses”; through this concept, he presents a sensory experience in which every element, from the lighting to the interiors, the menu to the music, is considered and arranged in perfect harmony.
Decked out in a moody Art Deco style, Qura at the Regent Hotel is the place to go for high-concept cocktails and incredible harbour views. Whisky connoisseurs will want to pause on the rare spirits section of the menu, where you’ll find rare Japanese whiskies and vintage single malts – perfect for sipping in a plush armchair in Qura’s laidback lounge area.
