    May: get fired up

A fire massage may sound intimidating, but you can rest easy during a detoxifying Thai ya-pao treatment. A gentle warming is the only sensation you will feel when your therapist lights up herbs such as turmeric, ginger and kaffir lime above your stomach. Combined with an abdominal massage, this is both cleansing and calming.

This one is not for the fainthearted, but if you ‘re in need of a deep reset, a dark room retreat is the ultimate way to quiet your mind and rest your body. Experts say you need three days alone in the dark to feel the full effect. Don’t worry, meals are delivered regularly to your room.

    December: chill out

Can a blast of cold air really make you look better? In the case of cryofacials – in which nitrogen vapours pass over your face, chilling it to -15°C – the answer is yes. The treatment lifts dead skin cells and contracts your blood vessels, boosting blood flow and flushing toxins away.
