From inspiring members of the community to flying champion athletes to international tournaments, we believe in the power of sport to move people. Over the years, we have fostered the development of sport in Hong Kong in various ways while proudly showing support for our home city’s athletes, whether they’re training on home turf or competing overseas.
Sport is one of the key focal points of our commitment to having a meaningful impact on society. To that end, we’ve been the title sponsor of Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens for 40 years, and we’ll be flying Hong Kong athletes directly to the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games this month.
“We are thrilled to play an important role in supporting our home-grown athletes as they strive to achieve their dreams and inspire the next generation of Hong Kong sportspeople,” said Lavinia Lau, Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, speaking at the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens in March.
For five years, we have been the exclusive official airline partner of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China – responsible for flying the Hong Kong, China Delegation to the Olympics, Asian Games and East Asian Games.
We also encourage athletes to continue reaching ever-higher through backing the Cathay Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards (HKSSA), which not only recognises the achievements of our athletes but also celebrates excellence, progressiveness and an unyielding can-do spirit – values we echo and embrace in our brand campaign “Feels Good to Move.
The most recent edition of the annual awards saw Siobhán Haughey, Hong Kong’s swimming champion and our brand ambassador, and Olympic gold medallist fencer Cheung Ka-long honoured as the “Best of the Best” for the third time. Both are headed to Paris this month, and will be joined by fellow elite athletes who make up the city’s delegation at the Olympics.
“Many of our accomplished athletes will be moving beyond the local stage as they travel to compete at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games. We will continue to support our home team as they embark on the ‘Road to Paris’,” says Edward Bell, General Manager, Brand, Insights and Marketing Communications.
From recognising and awarding athletic prowess to supporting huge sporting events that draw people from all over the world, backing Hong Kong sport is an honour and a privilege. It’s also an opportunity for us to step up to the plate and create memorable experiences that matter – for both athletes and the legions of fans who’ll be cheering them on.
