Superman

With his backstory recounted through a series of flashbacks, our hero is already living as Clark Kent and saving the world as Superman in this new adaptation. However, learning to balance these two identities remains a struggle; one that requires the support of his adoptive parents, his colleague Lois, and his faithful canine pal Krypto.  

Jurassic World Rebirth 

Three years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, a new chapter begins with Jurassic World Rebirth (Movie, Sci-Fi/Fantasy). Covert operations expert Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson) leads an extraction team joined by palaeontologist Dr Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey) and Captain Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) as they brave an isolated island research facility inhabited by dangerous prehistoric creatures on a mission to extract DNA that will bring life-saving benefits to humanity. The undeniable charisma of this trio is a real highlight here, second only to the dinosaurs in all their awesomeness. 

The Great Escape: The Story 

Love escape rooms? You’ll thoroughly enjoy The Great Escape: The Story (TV, Reality). A spin-off of the original Great Escape series, which earned a cult following thanks to its immersive storytelling and loveable cast, The Story delivers even more imaginative themes and complex puzzles. A new group of participants find themselves in an unfamiliar setting, armed with a set of clues that are sprinkled with unnerving details. Over the next few episodes, they must unravel the mystery to free themselves, before time runs out.  

The Handmaid’s Tale 

In its sixth and final season, captivating dystopian drama The Handmaid’s Tale (TV, Drama) concludes the story of June Osborne (Elizabeth Moss), a woman living under a cruel regime in which she is forced to serve as a reproductive vessel, and who gradually becomes the face of an underground resistance group. Materialists

Romance – in this economy? Materialists (Movie, Drama) is a New York romcom wholly of its time. Cool-girl Lucy (Dakota Johnson) is a successful matchmaker, pairing up the elite of Manhattan. When handsome hedge-fund manager Harry (Pedro Pascal) begins courting her, it seems she’s found her own match. Except there’s also John (Chris Evans), a struggling actor with whom Lucy shares a less glamorous but tender past. With Celine Song, writer and director of Past Lives, at the helm, this true-to-life love story promises to leave an imprint. 

Law and the City

At a cut-throat law firm in Seoul, five lawyers are doing their best to cope with the highs and lows of the profession. Among them is Ju-Hyeong (Lee Jong-Suk), a senior lawyer who has found success through pragmatism rather than passion. But as he grows close to the justice-driven Hui-ji (Moon Ga-young), Ju-Hyeong realises how far he’s strayed from his ideals. Favouring slow-paced development over high-stakes action, Law and the City (TV, K-drama) is a legal drama with depth and insight.

She Rides Shotgun

Adapted from Jordan Harper’s best-selling novel, She Rides Shotgun (Movie, Thriller) is an explosive action film with an emotional core. Newly released from prison, Nate (Taron Egerton) struggles to reconnect with his 11-year-old daughter, Polly (Ana Sophia Heger) while also evading his criminal enemies. With Polly in the line of fire, Nate must regain his daughter’s trust – and keep her alive. As he teaches her everything he knows about survival, he must become the father figure she’s long needed. 

How to Train Your Dragon (2025)

Living up to the much-cherished animated original was never going to be easy, but How to Train Your Dragon (2025) (Movie, Sci-Fi/Fantasy) rises beautifully to the occasion. A blend of thrilling live action and stunning, hyper-realistic CGI, this new adaptation of the tale of Hiccup (Mason Thames), a young Viking, and Toothless, his draconic companion, thoughtfully expands on its predecessor while remaining incredibly faithful to the beloved tale. For newcomers, it’s a treat. For returning fans, it’s a chance to relive the magic.

And Just Like That... Season 3

And Just Like That… (TV, Comedy) invites fans back into the lives of friends Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) as they navigate love, work and friendship in the big city. After a sudden loss, Carrie is back on the dating scene, while Miranda embarks on a brave new journey and Charlotte juggles marriage and motherhood. This third and final season revives key themes from the original show, leading the women on a path towards self-empowerment.

Smashing Frank

Indie gem Smashing Frank (Movie, Drama) is a Robin Hood tale for the modern age. Idealistic Ayla (Hedwig Tam) leads a group of Gen-Z misfits, known as Frank, who livestream themselves stealing from the rich to give to the poor. Their next target? Billionaire crime lord Ho Ka-wang (Ben Yuen). Though highly entertaining, this is a film that takes its central theme of inequality seriously, provoking you to think even more than to laugh.

The Dreamer

Khalil Fong's 2024 album The Dreamer (Music, Chinese Pop) was created during a long illness. It stands as a final gift to the world, embodying his perseverance and love for music. Reflecting on the creative process, Fong previously expressed: “This album is eclectic and was produced entirely at home. Whether it was raining outside or the neighbours were renovating, whenever my health permitted I picked up the microphone – and kept going until the whole album was complete."

The Life of Chuck 

Charles “Chuck” Krantz (Tom Hiddleston) is dying. Concurrently, the world is also ending. A unique tale in three parts, The Life of Chuck (Movie, Drama) gradually reveals the connection between these two momentous events. Adapted from Stephen King’s magical realism novella, the film blends mystery, fantasy and tragedy into one ultimately life-affirming experience. Resist the urge to seek out spoilers: the plot’s twists and turns are worth waiting for.

Sinners

In Sinners (Movie, Horror), Ryan Coogler ingeniously reimagines the myth of the vampire to examine the traumatic legacy of the American South. Set in 1930s Mississippi, the film centres on twin brothers and seasoned liquor smugglers Smoke and Stack (both played by Michael B. Jordan). The pair plan to open their own juke joint and create a safe haven for black patrons – but threats to their existence are both ever-present and terrifying. 

Warfare

A war film without gloss or sheen, Warfare (Movie, Thriller) offers a realistic depiction of conflict from those who have experienced it – co-writer/director Ray Mendoza served during the Iraq War. The film follows a platoon of Navy SEALs as they attempt to salvage a mission that has gone horribly wrong. Scarred, burnt-out and disillusioned by their experiences, their only objective is to get through the day, alive and together. 

HAPPYEND

HAPPYEND (Movie, Drama) is a bittersweet tale about the complexities of growing up. Kou (Yukito Hidaka) and Yuta (Hayato Kurihara) are best friends in their final year of school. Despite living amid social and political strife, the pair are just like any other fun-loving and rebellious teenagers. But when their school implements new Draconian rules, Kou and Yuta begin to clash over ideals. As graduation looms, their futures – and their friendship – become increasingly uncertain. 

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning

Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team are embarking on one more impossible mission: to track down the Entity – a rogue artificial intelligence threatening global defence systems. If Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (Movie, Action/Adventure) really is the last we’ll see of this beloved franchise, it serves as a fitting farewell. The mission is thrilling, the stunts impeccable, the payoff satisfying. Cruise, as always, gives everything. 

The Resort

At a plush Mexican resort, Emma (Cristin Milioti) and Noah (William Jackson Harper) are celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary. Their seeming bliss is interrupted, however, when Emma stumbles upon evidence relating to an unsolved missing persons case. Deciding to investigate, the couple also find themselves assessing their own marriage, seeking answers for what went wrong. Surreal, witty and reflective, The Resort (TV, Drama)is a dark mystery with a tender heart. 

Jon Batiste - Paris

Concert film Jon Batiste - Paris (Movie, Concert) looks back on Batiste’s sublime 2023 performance in the City of Lights. The award-winning musician visited Ground Control, a trendy Paris warehouse-turned-creative-hub, for an intimate showcase of seventh album World Music Radio. His talent is on full display as he performs an eclectic set of songs inspired by global sounds, from reggaeton to K-pop. A rare treat indeed for Batiste fans.

LAZARUS

From acclaimed anime director Shinichiro Watanabe comes LAZARUS (TV, Anime), a stylish thriller set in a tech-driven future. The series follows a team of misfit heroes on an urgent mission: to track down a wayward scientist named Dr Skinner, whose miracle healing drug now threatens to kill everyone who took it. An eye-catching art style and jazz-infused soundtrack add to the series’ compelling plot and charming cast of characters.

There's Still Tomorrow 

In There's Still Tomorrow (Movie, Drama) director Paola Cortellesi offers a stirring depiction of life for working-class women in postwar Italy. She also plays the film’s protagonist, Delia, a woman who appears to endure the poverty, toil and violence that make up her daily existence with quiet resignation. Yet this film’s carefully constructed narrative leads to a momentous final act, in which Delia’s plan to break the cycle of abuse for her daughter is revealed.  

Big World 

Coming-of-age Chinese drama Big World (Movie, Drama) follows a young man on a quest for independence. For 20-year-old Chunhe (Jackson Yee), who has cerebral palsy, the world can be a particularly hostile place. His overprotective mother is sceptical of his plan to go to college and study to become a teacher. Fortunately, he finds a champion in his grandmother, whose unwavering belief pushes him towards his goal in this uplifting film about love, prejudice and fulfilment.  

The Ballad of Wallis Island  

A zealous fan schemes to get his favourite band back together in The Ballad of Wallis Island (Movie, Comedy). Charles (Tim Key) is a lonely lottery winner and longtime devotee of the musical duo Herb McGwyer (Tom Basden) and Nell Mortimer (Carey Mulligan). Putting his millions to use, Charles hires the pair to perform a private gig at his island home. The snag? Herb and Nell are no longer on speaking terms. The tale that unfolds is equal parts whimsical and moving.  

Common Ground  

Intensely thought-provoking, Common Ground (Movie, Documentary) sheds light on an issue often dangerously overlooked: the state of the world’s soil. With insights from farmers, scientists and activists, it examines the global impact of intensive agricultural practises and proposes a sustainable solution. Though the documentary is charged with tension due to its high-stakes subject matter, its message is ultimately one of hope.  

Uncle Mum 

Series Uncle Mum (TV, Drama) is a classic body swap tale mixed with elements of the supernatural and a large dose of family drama. After being killed in a car accident, careless taxi driver Fat (Kenny Wong Tak-Bun) wakes to find himself in the body of Ching (Jennifer Yu), a busy homemaker whose baby is due any day. Trapped in the same form, Fat and Ching must learn to get along, manage Ching’s daily struggles and bring her baby safely into the world.    

Nonnas

A film that will appeal to families and foodies in equal measures, Nonnas (Movie, Comedy) is inspired by the true story of Italian American restaurateur Joe Scaravella. It follows Joe (Vince Vaughn) as he pursues his dream of opening an Italian restaurant where all the chefs are grandmothers, each serving up classic dishes from a different region of Italy. All he must do is assemble his team of nonnas, draw in customers and win over critics – what could go wrong?  

Can I Get a Witness 

In Can I Get a Witness (Movie, Sci-Fi/Fantasy), Kiah (Keira Jang) is a teenager living in the year 2040. It’s been just over a decade since the world suffered a terrible disaster, and people are enjoying surprisingly stress-free, low-tech lives. But there’s a price to pay for this stability: everyone must die once they reach 50 years old. As a newly recruited “Documenter”, Kiah must use her artistic talents to draw these deaths, but distancing herself from the job proves impossible.  

You Are the Apple of My Eye 

Capturing the sweetness and sorrow of a first love, Giddens Ko’s beloved novel has already inspired one hit film. Now, You Are the Apple of My Eye (Movie, Romantic Comedy) has been adapted again for a new generation of viewers. This time, it stars K-pop idol Dahyun alongside Jung Jin-young as classmates Seon-ah and Jin-woo. Opposites in just about everything, the pair nevertheless strike up a friendship that gradually blossoms into romance. 

Freaky Tales

Freaky Tales (Movie, Thriller) wears its 80s nostalgia proudly, while simultaneously bubbling with originality. As its title declares, this action-comedy film delivers four wonderfully weird tales, set during a single night in 1987 in California. There’s the punk couple who take on a gang of skinheads, the former hitman whose past catches up to him, the female rappers fighting to get their music heard, and the basketball star who has his own way of dealing with burglars. It’s a wild, chaotic ride. 

Four Trails 

Robin Lee’s ode to Hong Kong explores the beauty and might of the city’s natural landscapes via one of its most gruelling races: the Hong Kong Four Trails Ultra Challenge (HK4TUC), which combines four major hiking routes and spans almost 300km. Four Trails (Movie, Documentary) follows five participants competing in the 2021 race – each with their own goals and obstacles to overcome. The journey is filled with the kind of unexpected twists that can only come from real life. 

All We Imagine as Light

In Mumbai, two Malayali nurses and a struggling cook navigate love, identity, and societal pressures in All We Imagine as Light (Movie, Drama). Prabha (Kani Kusruti) longs for her estranged husband, Anu (Divya Prabha) hides an interfaith romance, and Parvathy (Chhaya Kadam) faces eviction. A journey to a coastal village intertwines their lives, exploring intimacy, resilience and self-discovery. 

Wick is Pain

From an indie film that was nearly scrapped to a hit movie franchise loved worldwide, John Wick is a Hollywood success story. A medical drama with a fresh format, The Pitt (TV, Drama) follows a team of frontline workers at a Pittsburgh hospital. The entire first season covers a single 15-hour shift in the emergency room, with each episode representing one hour. The result is an in-depth, realistic and emotional portrayal of the lives of healthcare workers and their patients, the flawed system they are all caught up in, and the psychological toll it takes. 

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy

Bridget is back, and in Mad About the Boy (Movie, Romantic Comedy), she’s as awkward and relatable as ever. She’s also wiser, having weathered significant hardships. Single again, she attempts to follow her friends’ advice to “get back out there”. But it isn’t easy when the world of dating has changed beyond recognition. Cue moments of both embarrassment and self-reflection. Renée Zellweger reprises this much-loved role with flair. 

Mickey 17

In Mickey 17 (Movie, Sci-Fi/Fantasy), Parasite director Bong Joon-ho delivers a wry commentary on worker exploitation. Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson) is a recruit on a spaceship tasked with colonising a distant planet. Deemed expendable, he is repeatedly sent to his death on fatal missions, only to have his body “reprinted”. Each iteration of Mickey is a shadow of the former, with a diminishing number of memories. Slowly, he stumbles towards an existential crisis.

The Girl with the Needle 

Loosely based on real events, The Girl with the Needle (Movie, Drama) recalls a disturbing chapter in Danish history. Shot in striking black and white, it depicts a bleak, postwar Copenhagen, where Karoline (Vic Carmen Sonne), an impoverished factory worker, finds herself pregnant and desperate. Fatefully, she accepts the help of the charming Dagmar (Trine Dyrholm), whose true intent gradually carries this film into the realm of horror.  

Flow 

From Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis comes a rare gem of a film. The Academy Award-winning Flow (Movie, Animation) tells the story of Cat, an animal whose life is upended by a great, devastating flood. He seeks refuge on a boat, where he meets a host of other animals, and together they embark on a journey of survival and friendship. There’s no dialogue here; just charming, DIY-style animation that succeeds in breathing life into the film’s characters and eco-inspired story. 

Fresh off Markham

Fresh off Markham (Movie, Comedy) interweaves the stories of three individuals in the Toronto suburb of Markham. Shan (Nian Chang) has just arrived from the Chinese Mainland and immediately becomes embroiled in a disastrous robbery. O’Shea (Edmond Clark) is an Uber driver who finds himself the unwitting getaway driver of this heist, while Circle (Yee Chun Jessica Chan) is a Hong Kong socialite whose ride is hijacked. At times absurd, this film is nevertheless a thoughtful exploration of immigration and identity. 

Am I Being Unreasonable? 

A delicious mix of comedy and horror, series Am I Being Unreasonable? (TV, Comedy) revolves around the increasingly knotty friendship between Nic (Daisy May Cooper), a lonely, put-upon mother, and Jen (Selin Hizli), her seemingly friendly new neighbour. With season one ending in a slew of secrets coming to light, season two dives right back into the drama, with more moments of both hand-gripping tension and laugh-out-loud humour. 

Last Breath

A routine dive takes a terrifying turn when a diver becomes trapped underwater with a depleting supply of oxygen. With his crew mates determined to save him, the daring rescue mission at the centre of Last Breath (Movie, Thriller) is based on a true story. Director Alex Parkinson previously worked on a documentary about the event and brings an authenticity to Last Breath that serves to further raise the stakes. Starring Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu and Finn Cole. 

Matlock 

A lively reimagining of the classic ‘80s legal drama of the same name, Matlock (TV, Drama) sees Academy Award-winner Kathy Bates in her element as demure and witty Madeline “Matty” Matlock. The gifted lawyer, now in her 70s, decides to return to the workforce and soon shakes up her prestigious new firm by winning case after case, while exposing corruption from within.  

Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story 

Lifting the veil on a legend, Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story (Movie, Documentary) offers an intimate look at the life of singer and actor Liza Minnelli. The documentary focuses on a period of personal and professional struggle in Minnelli’s life, following the death of her mother Judy Garland and before her ascension to superstardom. Through it all, Minnelli’s warmth as a person and sparkle as a performer shine through.   

The Land of Morning Calm 

Painting a fascinating portrait of life in a small Korean fishing village, The Land of Morning Calm (Movie, Drama) centres on two men. Fisherman Yong-su (Park Jong-hwan) longs to escape his tough existence, and in a moment of despair fakes his own death. His actions have far-reaching consequences for his elderly captain Yeong-guk (Yoon Joo-sang), who finds himself, amid his other struggles, under intense scrutiny over the disappearance. 

Anora

A young working-class woman sees her life change overnight when she marries the son of a wealthy oligarch. Yet Anora (Movie, Comedy) is far from a Cinderella story. With a mix of weighty realism and light-hearted vivacity, the film lays bare the societal injustices that ultimately exclude the titular Anora from the world she fights for a place in. Star Mikey Madison pours energy and emotion into the film’s heroine – you’ll never take your eyes off her.  

Stuntman  

Action film director Sam (Stephen Tung Wai) hasn’t worked in years – not since a risky stunt ended in tragedy, destroying his reputation and career. When a venerated director gives him a chance at a comeback, he’s determined to coordinate a series of truly epic fight scenes. The main challenge, however, will be winning the trust of the film’s cast and crew. A tale of regret and redemption, as well as a tribute to classic Hong Kong action films, Stuntman (Movie, Action/Adventure) is both a touching and thrilling watch.  

Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World

Paddington in Peru 

Having stolen the hearts of all ages in his first two films, Paddington Bear returns for a third big-screen adventure. Paddington in Peru (Movie, Comedy) sees the hat-wearing, marmalade-eating bear journey to his old home in the rainforests of Peru, where he reunites with his dear Aunt Lucy, and becomes entangled in a new series of mishaps. While its vibrant location provides fresh scope for adventure, Paddington in Peru remains true to the franchise’s small-time charm and simple message of kindness. 

Her Story 

Two women with very different lives are brought together in Her Story (Movie, Romantic Comedy). Tiemei (Song Jia) is a no-nonsense single mother; Ye (Elaine Zhong) is a free-spirited romantic. Each is dealing with their own private struggles and past traumas; yet they unexpectedly find strength and solidarity in one another’s friendship. Her Story gets its narrative and characters just right, taking viewers on a journey that feels grounded, while offering a sense of hope. 

Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words 

The inspiring story of Megan Thee Stallion is marked by several dark chapters. The American rapper recounts them with courage, honesty and unprecedented detail in Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words (Movie, Documentary). Interspersing live footage, interviews, and beautiful animated sequences, this documentary charts Megan Thee Stallion’s rise to musical success, the shocking incident that threatened to destabilise her life and career, and her subsequent journey to recovery.  

The Brutalist

Hollywood’s latest triumph, The Brutalist (Movie, Drama) is an epic three-hour deconstruction of the American Dream. It centres around Hungarian-Jewish architect László Tóth (Adrien Brody), a Holocaust survivor who has fled Europe to start a new life in America. There, he’s offered the chance to design a grand new building. Yet his hopes and dreams are destroyed as quickly as they are realised, as Tóth buckles under the weight of exploitation, his immigrant identity and past trauma.

Babygirl

Desire and power become dangerously entangled in Babygirl (Movie, Drama), a film about a relationship between a high-flying boss and her much younger intern. Nicole Kidman plays Romy, a successful CEO, wife and mother whose picture-perfect life is marred by private frustrations. When she encounters the young but cocksure Samuel (Harris Dickinson), she is enticed into a risky affair in which he is the one calling the shots – or is he? In such a volatile dynamic, the answer is far from clear.  

Love Lies

Seeking another chance at love, widow Veronica (Sandra Ng) joins a dating app where she meets Alain, a charming French engineer. Sparks instantly fly, but there's a problem: Alain is really Joe (MC Cheung Tin-fu), the newest recruit at a dating scam syndicate. Suffice to say, Love Lies (Movie, Romantic Comedy) is not your average romcom. As Joe battles with his conscience and Veronica grasps at fleeting happiness, the film raises questions about love and connection in the digital age. Wicked

Wicked, one of the most beloved and enduring stage musicals, now arrives on your screen as a generation-defining cinematic event. Retired, divorced, and estranged from his daughter, he’s ready to end his life – but is saved by a stray dog named Roast Piggy. As it happens, the animal is also in need saving. Soon a bond is forged between the pair, offering both a second chance in life.  

Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King

Explore the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands as Disney presents Mufasa: The Lion King (Movie, Sci-Fi/Fantasy). Follow Rafiki as he recounts the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara — daughter of Simba and Nala — with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka, who is heir to a royal bloodline.

Harlequin, Lady Gaga

Following her turn as Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux, Lady Gaga presents a companion album that pays tribute to her illustrious character. Harlequin (Audio, Western Pop) is a miscellany of classic covers and original songs. Folie à Deux and Happy Mistake, the two tracks penned by Gaga, sit comfortably alongside big band hits like That’s Life. With a sound that spans jazz, gospel and Broadway, the record shows Gaga both in touch with her character and in her musical element.

The Last Dance

When the pandemic dries up his business, wedding planner Dominic (Dayo Wong) turns to funeral arranging. His new partner, however, is a stern Taoist priest, Master Man (Michael Hui), who’s too concerned with performing the rites of the deceased to be impressed by Dominic’s sales tactics. Clearly, the commercially minded Dominic has much to learn about taking care of the dead; but as The Last Dance (Movie, Drama) soon reveals, Man has even more to learn about caring for the living. 

The Penguin

DC Studios’ The Penguin (TV, Drama) tells the origin story of one of Gotham City’s most notorious villains. Colin Farrell gives a Golden Globe-winning performance as Oz Cobb, a mid-level crook with an insatiable hunger for power. Following the death of top mobster Carmine Falcone, Cobb embarks on a bloody campaign to take his place, going up against Falcone’s daughter Sofia, who has just been released from Arkham State Hospital. Full of grit and drama, The Penguin immerses viewers deep in the murky criminal underworld of Gotham City.

See Her Again

Combining two classic genres – the crime drama and the time travel fantasy – See Her Again (TV, Asia) creates something altogether new. The Hong Kong series follows police detective Yeung Kwong-yiu (William Chan) as he travels between the 1990s and 2018 in an attempt to solve – and subsequently prevent – a series of murders that hit painfully close to home. With a well-crafted plot that unfolds at a tantalising pace, See Her Again makes for irresistible viewing.

My Sunshine

Shy schoolboy Takuya (Keitatsu Koshiyama) dreads winters in his hometown, when he's expected to join the other boys in playing ice hockey. After encountering new girl Sakura (Kiara Takanashi), a talented figure skater, he finds himself irresistibly drawn both to her and this graceful sport. My Sunshine (Movie, Drama) at first appears to be a cosy coming-of-age tale, but the film’s rosy glow belies all the pain and confusion of adolescence – a deft sleight of hand by writer-director Hiroshi Okuyama. 

The Cleaner

Former crime boss Dragon Ho (Chin Shih-chieh) has a new line of work – but it’s only slightly less grisly. As the head of a cleaning company that specialises in scenes where people have died, he must deal with blood, decay and other pleasant messes. At the same time, Ho is attempting to clean up the mess of his own life – starting with his relationship with his daughter. Blending comedy and drama, The Cleaner (TV, Drama) provides a novel lens through which to explore life and death. 

Beethoven Blues

On Beethoven Blues (Audio, Classical), pianist and singer Jon Batiste reimagines Beethoven’s masterpieces in a way only the bold, eclectic and highly gifted Batiste can. Weaving intricate connections between classical music and blues, he breathes new life into famed compositions such as Für Elise and 5th Symphony, showing that a reverence for classical music need not mean never daring to tamper with it. The result is an album that lovers of Beethoven, blues and everything in between will enjoy. 

Emilia Pérez

Thriller, tragedy, social critique and musical: Emilia Pérez (Movie, Drama) is all this and more. It follows the lives of three women in Mexico; Rita (Zoe Saldaña), a brilliant yet struggling lawyer, is sought out by Emilia (Karla Sofía Gascón), a cartel leader who wishes to begin a new life as her authentic self. Yet this means cutting ties not only with her murderous past, but her wife, Jessi (Selena Gomez). Suspend your disbelief and be carried away by this genre- and expectation-defying film. 

English Teacher

Series English Teacher (TV, Comedy) follows high school teacher Evan Marquez (creator and star Brian Jordan Alvarez) as he struggles to navigate the increasingly complex world of education. While passionate about his job, Marquez regularly finds himself ill-equipped to deal with his wily Gen-Z students, their demanding guardians and his equally clueless co-workers. Exploring contemporary issues with both humour and tenderness, English Teacher is a fresh take on a familiar comic set-up. 

A Girl Named Ann 

Ann (Yuumi Kawai) has lived a life few could contemplate, let alone endure: an abuse survivor, she's now battling poverty and addiction. A run-in with an unconventional detective leads to an offer of help and resources, and finally shown kindness, Ann begins to strive for a better life. But A Girl Named Ann (Movie, Drama) reminds viewers that entrenched social injustices aren’t so easily overcome, as the pandemic threatens to isolate Ann from her support network and erase her hard-earned progress.

The Eyes of Tammy Faye

In the 1980s, Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker reigned over Christian television in the US; together, they hosted The PTL (“Praise the Lord”) Club, a variety talk show on which they would urge faithful viewers to call in and pledge donations. Behind the scenes, however, their lifestyle was outrageously lavish. The Eyes of Tammy Faye (Movie, Drama) is a biopic that charts the rise and fall of the infamous pair. The film’s highlight is without doubt its leading lady: Jessica Chastain brings Tammy Faye sensationally to life. 

Joker: Folie à Deux

Joker: Folie à Deux (Movie, Drama), the sequel to Todd Phillips’ eerie Joker, sees Joaquin’s Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck fatefully meet the love of his life. Following his crimes of the first film, Fleck is now incarcerated at Arkham State Hospital awaiting trial. Locked up and abused, he battles ferociously with his two identities. It’s in this state that he encounters fellow inmate Lee Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn. Captivated by Joker, she encourages Fleck to embrace this dark, dangerous side of himself – with dramatic consequences.

The Unwavering Brotherhood

With glossy action sequences, themes of loyalty and morality, and a gritty version of Hong Kong as its backdrop, The Unwavering Brotherhood (Movie, Action/Adventure) is a faithful and entertaining homage to the city’s classic gangster movies. It stars Bosco Wong as Wah, a trusted gang member poised to one day take over from his powerful boss (a menacing Mark Cheng). However, Wah’s loyalty is tested when two fellow members – who also happen to be his best friends – appear to go rogue.
