The City of Dreams, Mumbai holds a special place in the heart of Jonam Bomjen, a Flight Attendant with Cathay Pacific.

“Mumbai is like an old friend to me. It may be one of India’s busiest cities but it’s safe and friendly. I love being able to roam around on my own to visit my favourite spots.”

    Must-do

I have a ritual that I like to follow whenever I visit Mumbai. I start the day with a delicious cup of chai, then I head to Hill Road. It’s a long shopping boulevard where you can find great-quality clothes and accessories, and I nearly always come away with new treasures. Afterwards, I wind down at Marine Drive, a serene waterfront area where you can walk, relax or socialise. Of course, if you prefer a livelier environment, Mumbai has great bars: Bastian - At The Top is a popular choice, and not only because you’re likely to spot a Bollywood star or two there.

    Must-eat

I recommend eating as much as you can while in Mumbai. Marine Drive is a great place for street food like vada pav, a burger-like snack consisting of fried potato in between two slices of bread. My favourite spot, though, is Café Madras on Bhaudaji Road in Matunga East; it’s a local café that’s been around since the 1940s and serves the best south Indian food at the best prices. If you’re planning to go for lunch, be sure to arrive early to beat the crowds.

    Must-pack

If, like me, you love shopping, you’re going to need a tote bag to carry all your Hill Road purchases. I’d also recommend a water bottle for keeping hydrated, because Mumbai is warm year-round. That said, rain can come out of nowhere at any moment, so an umbrella is a good idea too.
