In a city with as many boutique hotels as New York City, it takes a truly special new address to turn heads. But that’s exactly what The Manner did when it opened its doors in autumn 2024.
You’d be forgiven for missing the hotel as you stroll down Thompson Street, a quiet, leafy road near Greenwich Village. There’s no glitzy sign declaring the hotel’s location, but The Manner doesn’t need to shout: it draws you in with its sleek gold-detailed façade and welcomes you with a vibrant, playful design that exudes Studio 54 glamour. The attention to detail is striking; the subtle interplay of textures, materials and spatial compositions harmonise to evoke a sense of place and intimacy.
The hotel offers a distinct approach to hospitality, one it likens to being “welcomed into the home of a dear friend”. This rings true throughout the property, but perhaps nowhere more so than in The Apartment on the first floor, where guests are invited to relax and enjoy complimentary drinks and snacks. A climb up the marble staircase from the lobby reveals this expansive lounge with a stunning sculptural fireplace at its centre. Pompeian red walls and mahogany details warm the room further, making the space feel intimate and homey.
This vibrant colour palette continues into The Manner’s 97 rooms, which range from 220sq ft to a massive, 1,800sq ft duplex penthouse. Floor-to-ceiling mirrors bring New York City inside, while navy blue and red lacquer, glossy dark wood veneers and gold detailing add sophisticated tones to the bright space. Designer room details and amenities abound, with names like Foundrae, Costa Brazil and Atelier Saucier all featured throughout the room.
Hungry? On the ground floor, you’ll find The Otter, helmed by James Beard nominee chef Alex Stupak, which specialises in seafood and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Meanwhile, hidden behind a curtain on the first floor is Sloane’s: a glamorous yet relaxed speakeasy-style cocktail parlour where you can easily spend more than a couple of hours unwinding with a drink.

The Manner is a truly stunning property in New York’s trendiest neighbourhood, but what sets it apart is its soul. Unlike other larger luxury hotels, the intimate nature of the space really does make it feel like you’re at home away from home. After a day spent pounding the streets, you’re welcomed back by a smiling doorman who asks you about your day. You head inside to The Apartment for a drink and nibbles in the evening glow – and a roaring fire in the winter months. After dinner, you join those in-the-know in Sloane’s for a nightcap. Then, you do it all over again the next day.
“If, like me, you’re partial to an espresso martini (or two), you won’t want to miss out on an evening at Sloane’s. We sampled our fair share on our holiday in New York, but none compared to those made by the mixologists here.”
