    What to see and do

If you’ve already had a chance to delve into Seoul’s shopping and street food scene, slip an outdoor adventure into your itinerary for an exciting change. Those who enjoy scenic hikes or more challenging climbs will be pleasantly surprised that Bukhansan National Park is still technically within the city’s borders. Meanwhile, the 8.5 km-long Gangchon rail bike experience in Chuncheon, around two hours from Seoul’s city centre by train, is suitable for solo travellers, duos or small groups any time of the year – just be sure to dress for the weather.

If you want a post-ride meal in Chuncheon, check out Myeongdong Dakgalbi Street (not to be confused with Seoul’s Myeongdong), an alley dotted with shops serving flavourfully stir-fried spicy chicken.

And if you happen to be visiting Seoul during March, the city will be playing host to the 2024 edition of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants , making it the perfect time to celebrate Korean cuisine. Sample worldwide favourites like steaming-hot bibimbap at Gwangjang Market . Or, have a daytime drink at Zest , an inviting and sustainably-minded bar that snagged No.18 in The World’s 50 Best Bars 2023 .

Want to stay in Chuncheon for longer? There’s still plenty to see in the city, including imposing glass skywalks that extend over the bordering Soyang River, as well as the nearby Nami Island . Unwind and refresh with a night at Browndot Hotel Namchuncheon , which offers modern rooms, ample amenities and quick access to the train station.

For those looking to stay in a central location in Seoul  seize the opportunity to stay in Signiel Seoul for wide-reaching city views, a luxurious lounge and two Michelin-starred restaurants for guests to enjoy.  Explore more great Seoul hotel options here.

While the city is filled with great shopping options, there’s no shortage of coastal activities to experience. Stroll the paved walkway adorned with curious statues around Mituo Fishing Harbour; drop by Keziliao Harbour Fish Market to check out fresh fish and compact hot food stalls; or discover hidden limestone caves in Shoushan National Nature Park .

In Meinong district, you can try braised pork and flat rice noodles (bantiao) cooked in the Hakka style, the latter of which you can get at Lin’s Flat Rice Noodles . Trawl Liuhe Night Market for more classic treats like grilled squid, deep-fried assorted seafood or neatly packaged fruit. If you’re craving seafood (arguably) at its best – fresh, no-frills, salted and grilled – book a table at Wen Wu Wu Beach Surf Grill (文武伍肆燒烤店) and try the charcoal-grilled red snapper.

    What to see and do

There’s more to Auckland than flat white coffees and a buzzing food scene. Embark on urban and natural adventures in the city or head a little further for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. At Great Barrier Island , just under five hours from Auckland by ferry, you can hike the Aotea track to spot wildlife, plunge into hot springs or stargaze under a dark sky. But be prepared – the island is off-grid and relies on solar power and freshwater collection, meaning electricity and water should be used with care.

While on the island, kick back and check out a range of craft beer, cider and soda on tap at Aotea Brewing Company . Back on the mainland, keep an eye out for the Food Show hosted at the Auckland Showgrounds at the end of July for a celebration of local and international fare. And for eateries that showcase local produce with a twist, pop by Amano for Italian-inspired grub and baked goods, or Ahi for homegrown veggies and wallaby tartare.

    What to see and do

No longer a sleepy fishing village, Qingdao has much to offer travellers. Cool off with beers from around the world during the Qingdao International Beer Festival in August. At Golden Beach, one of the main venues, the normally calm esplanade transforms into a festively lit carnival at night. If you’re looking for something a little different, meander through Badaguan’s charming seaside villas, built from granite following European architectural styles.
