Passports and visas

Make sure you travel with a valid passport and relevant visa so you can have an enjoyable trip.

United Kingdom

eVisa and ETA Requirements

The UK Government is transitioning to a fully digital immigration system.

Travellers who already hold a UK eVisa or UK resident status should ensure their passport details are up to date in their UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account before departure. Visitors who do not require a visa for short stays in the UK must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).

From 25 February 2026, eligible visitors without a valid ETA will not be permitted to board flights to the UK.

For the latest information on UK eVisas and ETA requirements, please visit the official UK Government website here .

European Union

Entry/Exit System (EES)

The European Union is introducing the Entry/Exit System (EES), which will gradually replace manual passport stamping at border control.

Under EES:

  • non-EU passport holders travelling for short stays are required to register biometric data, including fingerprints and a facial image, when entering the EU/Schengen area for the first time after EES begins at their arrival airport. This may result in longer wait times at border control.

EES implementation by airport

Please refer to below for indicative EES implementation at EU/Schengen arrival airports served by Cathay Pacific.

Departures and arrivals at: Amsterdam (AMS), Barcelona (BCN), Frankfurt (FRA), Madrid (MAD), Munich (MUC) and Zurich (ZRH)

Arrivals at: Milan (MXP)

Implementation on or before end of March 2026: Brussels (BRU), Paris (CDG) and Rome (FCO)

Implementation timelines are determined by local authorities and may be subject to change.

The EES applies at EU/Schengen entry and exit points, except for the Republic of Ireland and Cyprus.
