Looking to stay healthy in Hong Kong and beyond? Each month, we share the latest wellness news and openings at home and across the globe. Discover what’s new in July.

    Forever yun

Yun Wellness at the Island Shangri-la has taken wellness to the next level. Spanish interior designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán has channelled an Indochine aesthetic, blending inviting textures with soothing jade and terracotta tones that encourage you to linger. Here, you’ll find an extensive menu of wellness treatments under one roof, including nutrition, physiotherapy and fitness classes to complement body, face and hair spa treatments. Membership comes with access to the newly renovated pool and state-of-the-art gym. Following the brand’s debut in Hong Kong, expect to see more Yun Wellness spaces rolling out in Shangri-La hotels around the world.

    Fungi business

The world is finally waking up to the amazing health benefits of mushrooms. A new Hong Kong-based startup, Shroommate , has harnessed their power in convenient sachet form, designed to be dissolved into water or added to a smoothie. The brand offers cordyceps for energy, muscle recovery and heart health; lion’s mane for cognitive function; and reishi for immunity and sleep support: all welcome boosts for those with busy lifestyles.

    Check in, check up

If you’ve been looking to hop on the health-while-on-holiday trend, the Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort makes it easy. Last year, the five-star hotel became home to the BDMS Wellness Clinic Retreat , an outpost of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services, one of Thailand’s largest medical tourism providers. There’s a range of medical and wellness programmes, from diagnostic checks to aesthetic treatments, which all take place in comfortable spa-like surroundings. The Health Check Up package includes accommodation, nutritionist-approved meals, and wellness checks covering hormones, cardiovascular health, blood sugar, and liver and renal functions. Add extras, like a genetic analysis or cancer screening – and for longer stays, opt for a wellness retreat focusing on weight loss and detox, or rejuvenate with a facial or massage.

    Cream of the crop

Cult Californian vegan ice cream brand Coolhaus has reached Hong Kong, and dessert-lovers are lapping it up. Instead of almond or coconut milk, this ice cream is made with a microflora-cultivated fermented protein that’s bio-identical to dairy – with no cows involved. It’s free from lactose and cholesterol, and is vegan, kosher and non-GMO. In addition to classic flavours such as cookies and creme, molten chocolate and peanut butter ‘n’ fudge, try the boba-inspired flavours for an Asian twist. Available at 7-Eleven and Wellcome supermarkets citywide.
