Eighty years of travel is a milestone built on countless individual journeys. To celebrate, we invited Cathay Pacific’s Cathay members to share the flights they’ll never forget, stories of comfort, care and connection.

“Having travelled millions of miles with Cathay Pacific, I’ve always appreciated the people behind the journey. Cathay’s Diamond Plus team has been incredibly helpful over the years, particularly during unexpected circumstances. Recently, when my family’s flight from Tokyo was delayed, they moved us onto an earlier service and got us home sooner. I also value the attention to detail of both the ground staff and inflight crew: from knowing the drinks I like in the lounge to taking extra care to make sure my seat is spotless on board.”

“This Chinese New Year, I travelled from Hong Kong to Dubai with my husband Anurag and our teenage sons. The service was outstanding. I spent much of the flight reading Light on Life by BKS Iyengar, though I admit the inflight entertainment occasionally tempted me away from my book. Flying with Cathay Pacific feels like coming home. There’s a sense of familiarity, comfort and ease that I treasure. It feels safe.”

“On a trip to the US this July, a friend and I began our journey at The Wing, First, Cathay Pacific’s newly renovated First class lounge – thank you, companion pass! From the moment we arrived, the experience felt special. We were greeted warmly at the entrance and, to our delight, offered a glass of champagne. It may have been a little early for bubbles at 7am, but we happily raised a toast to the day ahead and a memorable journey. The flight home from Boston was every bit as enjoyable.”

“One of my most memorable flights was a Cathay Pacific First class journey from New York in 2019. It was also my birthday, making the occasion even more special. The seat felt more like a private suite, the lobster salad was superb, and I sipped on Amour de Deutz 2009 – a fantastic choice of wine. What I remember most, however, was the attentiveness of the crew. At one point, I was gently reminded that I should probably eat something because I ‘hadn’t eaten anything in three hours’.”

“Earlier this year, my partner Herman and I flew as First class passengers to London, and it was an experience to savour. Lunch began with caviar and blinis, followed by lamb chops with couscous from Cathay Pacific's partnership with Michelin-starred Louise, and free-flowing Krug. The crew suggested we dine together and set up an extended table, creating the feeling of a private restaurant in the sky. I fear I’ve been spoilt for life.”

“In 2017, I took my wife Christina and two sons to San Francisco, departing on an overnight flight. While Christina and I slept, our son William, then 10, seized the opportunity to order an à la carte cheeseburger, which he devoured with great enthusiasm. After taking off on my birthday and then crossing the International Date Line, I had the chance to celebrate twice. Fifteen hours in comfort each way, wonderful service and precious family memories. We still talk about it.”

“My favourite thing about flying with Cathay Pacific is the ice cream. One time I even got two! My mum remembers taking my first flight with me when I was three months old. I cried a lot, and the crew held me so she could have a break. Now, the first thing I do after getting to my seat is get cosy in a blanket and create a mini cocoon, like I’m at home. I love how there are lots of different TV shows to watch, and that children get their own meals. It feels like the holiday starts as soon as you get on the plane.”
