Changed your mind after booking? If you need to cancel your ticket, you can do so free of charge within 24 hours through Manage Booking. You can check your original confirmation email for the date and time by which you can enjoy the free cancellation.

What you need to know

Bookings that can be refunded

We will refund flight bookings you made directly with us on our website, mobile app or WeChat Mini Program if the:

  • Passengers’ Cathay membership number was added to the “Frequent flyer programme number” field or when you successfully signed up and agreed to be a Cathay member while booking your flight;
  • Booking was made more than eight days (192 hours) before the departure of your first flight under the flight bookings;
  • EFFECTIVE FROM 12 FEBRUARY 2026 (Hong Kong time), flight bookings applied with discount code stated to be eligible for refund are eligible for 24-hour free cancellation. Please refer to the relevant discount code promotion terms and conditions for details;
  • Booking was paid with cash or a combination of Asia Miles and cash;
  • Refund request was made via Manage Booking within 24 hours after booking; and
  • Tax and fuel surcharge will also be refunded under the 24-hour free cancellation.

For travel extras in the same booking, we are able provide a refund:

  1. if you fill out the online refund request form:
    • advance seat reservations fees; and
    • fees for lounge passes.
  2. if you contact Customer Care:
    • pre-paid extra baggage fees; and
    • unaccompanied minor service fees.


Bookings that cannot be refunded

You are not eligible for booking refunds if:

  • You did not add your Cathay membership number to the “Frequent flyer programme number” field on “Passenger Information” section when making your flight booking or within 24 hours after the flight booking;
  • A frequent flyer number of another airline was entered on the “Frequent flyer programme number” field even if you signed in as a Cathay member during booking;
  • The name of the passenger does not match the name registered in the Cathay membership programme membership account of the Cathay membership number added in the “Passenger Information” section during the booking process;
  • Your first flight under the booking is within eight days of booking (less than 192 hours before departure);
  • BETWEEN 3 JUNE 2024 AND 11 FEBRUARY 2026 (Hong Kong time), flight bookings applied with any discount code are not eligible for 24-hour free cancellation;
  • EFFECTIVE FROM 12 FEBRUARY 2026 (Hong Kong time), flight bookings applied with discount code stated not to be eligible for refund are non-eligible for 24-hour free cancellation. Please refer to the relevant discount code promotion terms and conditions for details;
  • The flight ticket was rebooked or reissued;
  • “Hold your fare” service has been used on the flight booking;
  • You’re holding a split booking (where one or more passengers have been separated from the original booking);
  • The refund request is made after the date and time of your free cancellation period shown on the payment page and confirmation email; and
  • The refund request of flight ticket is made through our online refund request form, Customer Care or live chat.


We are also unable to refund:

  • Asia Miles flight award bookings;
  • Hotel , travel insurance and packages purchased together with flights;
  • “Hold your fare” service fees; and
  • Group and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) bookings.
