We spoke to Summer Ju, Flight Attendant at Cathay Pacific, on her favourite spots to admire baroque buildings and tuck into authentic Bavarian dishes across the historic German city of Munich. “There’s a lot to experience in Munich, but if you’re only in town for a short stopover, I’d focus on two things: architecture and food,” she says.

Must-do

There are two famed churches. The first is Asamkirche; it’s small, but the baroque interior is magnificent. The second is St Peter’s Church, which is so tall that it took me 20 minutes to climb all the way to the top. But the effort was worth it for a prime view of the Rathaus-Glockenspiel, a nearby 118-year-old clock tower which houses a charming mechanical puppet that enacts scenes from 16th-century Munich twice a day. I managed to time my ascent perfectly.

Then there’s a stunning palace: the Munich Residenz. It reminded me of Versailles, but it’s much easier to navigate, as you’re given a free audio guide that explains the history of each room. My favourite room housed jewellery displays. The pieces were so fabulous I couldn’t pull myself away.

Must-eat

With so many restaurants serving Bavarian food, it can be hard to know which are the real deal. Luckily, Augustiner Klosterwirt was recommended to me by a local and it didn’t disappoint. I ordered the barbecued pork knuckle; it was delicious, but the portion was so generous that I struggled to finish it.

Must-pack

Even if you visit Munich in spring or summer, there’s always the chance that it’ll get chilly, so I recommend packing a light coat that folds easily into your suitcase.
