    This month, the Greater Bay Area plays host to an unforgettable lineup of events – from electrifying K-pop concerts and theatrical showcases in Macao SAR to a bold reinterpretation of Dante’s The Divine Comedy in Guangzhou and a landmark coffee expo in Shenzhen. With so many standout experiences on offer, this summer promises endless entertainment. We’ve rounded up a list of happenings not to be missed, so read on to find out where to go and what to catch.

    1. Macao SAR: Daesung  

    Music 

    K-pop sensation Daesung (of Big Bang fame) will take Studio City, Macao by storm with his solo show, D’s Wave Asia Tour 2025 . The Korean superstar will perform high-energy tracks from his new self-titled EP, thrilling fans with his charisma and edgy outfits.

    2. Macao SAR: An Astronaut’s Day  

    Theatre 

    This family-friendly theatre production brings the cosmos to life through dazzling LED visuals and cutting-edge multimedia effects. A towering space station will swoop across the auditorium at the Macao Cultural Centre, immersing audience members as they embark on an intergalactic journey.

    3. Guangzhou: Vertical Marathon 

    Sport 

    The International Vertical Marathon Open returns to Guangzhou with its adrenaline-fuelled competition, where hundreds of runners from across the world will test their limits. Contenders will climb the Huijin Twin Towers – scaling the Huijin International Financial Center (220 metres, 51 floors, 1,284 steps) and the Canton Financial Center (320 metres, 67 floors, 1,742 steps) – in some of this year’s most demanding courses.

    4. Guangzhou: Dante’s The Divine Comedy  

    Theatre

    Bringing the 2025 Art Season to a dramatic close, Guangzhou Opera House will premiere a bold musical adaptation of Dante Alighieri’s 14th-century poetic masterpiece, The Divine Comedy . Eight Italian vocalists lead an ambitious retelling of this epic journey through the afterlife, reimagined through an eclectic blend of rock, pop and opera.

    5. Shenzhen: Skylight  

    Theatre

    Award-winning British play Skylight is set to make its Shenzhen debut this August. The Hong Kong production is directed by Roy Szeto, a three-time Best Director winner at the Chinese Theatre Awards. The script is translated and performed by Ivana Wong – recipient of a Hong Kong Film Award for Best Supporting Actress at the 41st Hong Kong Film Awards – who stars alongside Golden Horse Best Actor Tse Kwan-ho. 

    29-30 August

    6. Shenzhen: Coffee expo 

    MICE 

    This summer, the largest coffee expo in the southern Chinese Mainland (CAFEEX) returns to the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, where acclaimed baristas, coffee brands and traders will gather for a three-day event. Running alongside CAFEEX is the Shenzhen Chocolate Expo (CHOCEX), showcasing a stellar lineup of gourmet chocolate brands in a programme that includes chocolate tasting and hands-on creation sessions.

    7. Shenzhen: Book store grand opening

    Affectionately known as the “Eye of the Bay Area”, the Shenzhen Book City Bay Area Store is a new book lover’s paradise in Qianhai – the largest of its kind in the Chinese Mainland and conveniently connected to the Baohua station along Shenzhen’s Metro Line 5. Home to four themed bookstores, an art gallery and variety of multi-purpose spaces – including an interactive playground – it serves as a dynamic hub of creativity.  
     
    Opening 26 August

    8. Foshan: Slava’s Snow Show 

    Theatre

    Slava’s Snow Show is the theatrical brainchild of Slava Polunin, the celebrated Russian clown, and has entertained audiences in more than 200 cities worldwide. The pantomime presents a poetic depiction of loneliness and sorrow, brought to life through expressive choreography, dazzling stage effects and a soundtrack of iconic songs – sure to mesmerise audiences of all ages at the Qionghua Theatre. Note: the show will also be performed in Shenzhen (6-10 August) and Macao (22-24 August). 

    13-17 August

    9. Zhuhai: New Relationships 2.0  

    Theatre 

    Blending comic dialogue, highly expressive acting and a relatable setting, this hilarious and thought-provoking performance by twin sisters is a genre unto itself. In their latest work, New Relationships 2.0 , Yan Yi and Yan Yue will present audiences at the Zhuhai Jinwan Civic Art Centre with an expansive view of both womanhood and twinhood, challenging societal norms and confronting preconceptions with wit and insight.
