Do you feel like you’ve stopped making progress on your fitness journey? It might be a sign that you've hit a plateau. This can occur when your body gets used to the pattern and demands of your workout routine. We've pulled together a few different ways you can add variety to your training style and diet – and get past your plateau.

    Switch up your workout routine

If your workout is getting too easy, it’s time to make a conscious effort to push yourself. Try something new at the gym (supersets, bodyweight workouts, circuit training) or even try a new gym altogether. A change of routine and environment can do wonders for your mindset.

    Try new foods

Eat healthy foods you haven’t tried yet. Switch up your snacks or try a new recipe each week. Keeping things fresh and fueling yourself with nutritious food  can help spark the change you’ve been looking for.

Be mindful of hidden natural sugars

Healthy adults should only eat a maximum of two servings of fresh fruit and two servings of dairy per day. Swap that extra serving of fruit with a veggie and a protein (such as cucumber and hummus, or celery and peanut butter).

    Take a break

Take a few rest days — or, if you’re particularly burnt out, take a rest week. Walking, gentle stretching, and yoga can help keep your body moving without putting it under too much strain. Get back into your routine when you’ve recharged, have more energy and feel motivated again.

    Try a new tool

Download a HIIT timer or buy yourself a device that will motivate you and get you out of your comfort zone. Running apps like Nike Run Club provide guided runs with virtual coaches cheering you on, and workout apps like SWEAT feature trainers that will take you through a range of workouts – anytime, anywhere. YouTube is a great source of inspiration too, with a huge range of free tutorials to help you get over a slumpachieve your fitness goals.
