To earn Asia Miles with our partners, you normally have to open the Asia Miles by Cathay app and have your membership QR code scanned. Now, with Card Linked Earn, we’re making it even easier to earn miles on your purchases – no app required.
All you need to do is link your existing Visa or Mastercard credit card with your Cathay membership account. Then, when you pay with your linked credit card at selected Cathay partners, your miles will automatically be credited to your account.
This new system, which launches in Hong Kong and Macao in late 2024, makes it simpler to earn miles from our partners and access rewards more quickly. Gone are the days when forgetting to show your membership code at checkout means losing out on Asia Miles. With Card Linked Earn, you’ll earn them effortlessly.
It’s even better if you have a Standard Chartered Cathay Mastercard®. Once linked, you’ll instantly earn Asia Miles twice – once from your card and a second time from the partner business. On top of Status Points and all the exclusive perks of Cathay’s co-branded credit card, you’ll also be rewarded with bonus miles which you can put towards your next holiday, purchase or dining experience.
“You can never have too many Asia Miles,” says Paul Smitton, Cathay’s Director Customer Lifestyle. “The wonderful thing about Card Linked Earn is that you pay once, earn twice.”
You can link up to five Visa or Mastercard credit cards to your Cathay membership account. Simply sign in via the Cathay website or Asia Miles by Cathay app and click “Manage Card Linked Earn”. On the dedicated page, you’ll be able to link or unlink credit cards. You’ll also receive monthly transaction summaries so you can keep track of your spending and stay on top of your miles.
After launching in Hong Kong and Macao, Card Linked Earn will roll out in Australia, Singapore, the UK and Japan, with more regions on the horizon.
To match the international remit of Card Linked Earn, we’re bringing our global partners on board the system. With more partners worldwide, our members can earn more miles, no matter where they are. From dining to retail, our wide range of partners meet – and reward you for – your everyday needs. So next time you’re enjoying some retail therapy or dining at an eligible partner restaurant, you can be sure you’re maximising your miles.
Looking ahead, we’re working towards eventually allowing members to pay with Asia Miles using their linked card. This will make it easier to not only earn miles, but also redeem rewards – with just one tap or swipe of your credit card.
For Smitton, Card Linked Earn is essentially about “removing friction” during checkout, rewarding members with miles and encouraging them to “engage with Cathay beyond the flight”.
“The idea of Cathay as a premium lifestyle brand,” he continues, “is that the Cathay ecosystem brings our members so many wonderful things they can do in their life – not just flying.”
