Ask a Cathay member: what’s your favourite destination to visit in summer?

School’s out, the sun’s gleaming, and clear, blue skies stretch overhead: summer’s the perfect time for a holiday. From theme park excursions and seaside trips to cooler escapes in the Southern Hemisphere, Cathay members tell us which destinations they set off to in summer.

“Skiing with my family in Wānaka, New Zealand, is my favourite summer getaway. In addition to uncrowded ski fields and breathtaking natural landscapes, the friendly locals and delicious food are true delights.”

“Kyoto is a must-visit destination for my family every summer. We enjoy donning kimonos and exploring the suburbs, or driving farther to beautiful Amanohashidate in Miyazu Bay for a relaxing, carefree day with friends. I love the serenity of Kyoto: my favourite experience is soaking in hot springs while listening to the peaceful sounds of nature. 

“My kids, on the other hand, like more excitement. For them, I’ll go to Universal Studios Japan in Osaka and test my mettle on the rollercoasters.”
