Coronavirus (COVID-19) FAQs

At the airport

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA)

For the latest shopping and dining arrangements at the Hong Kong airport, please visit their official website.

If you're arriving in, or transiting through, Hong Kong, please visit the Hong Kong Government COVID-19 website to find out what to expect upon arrival.

To ensure passengers and crew have the latest information, we also make updated health message broadcasts on all flights arriving into Hong Kong. These broadcasts alert everyone on board to the current situation and the necessary actions required.

If you're starting your journey from Hong Kong, your temperature will be checked at the entrance to the terminal and again before you pass through security.

If you are connecting from another flight, you'll be checked at the security transfer point.

There are also some destinations where the local government requires us to perform a temperature check at the boarding gate.

Hand sanitisers are available throughout the Hong Kong International Airport terminal, at multiple locations.

We've put in place a number of precautionary measures such as:

  • encouraging online check-in to minimise time required at the counter and kiosk
  • working with the Hong Kong Airport Authority to ensure Perspex screens are installed; and that social distancing markers, stickers and signage is clear and well positioned around the airport terminal
  • asking passengers to board by rows

To ensure passengers and crew have the latest information, we make updated health message broadcasts on all flights arriving into Hong Kong. These broadcasts alert everyone on board to the current situation and the necessary actions required.

Global airports

We continue to recommend two to three hours prior to departure.  While most airports are currently less busy than normal, we recommend this amount of time to ensure we can confirm your eligibility to travel and ensure all health, safety and regulatory checks are completed.

For now, yes.  While we encourage all passengers to check in online before coming to the airport, we still need to ask that you come to the check-in counter so that we can confirm your eligibility to travel, and ensure all health, safety and regulatory checks are completed.

As travel bubbles and corridors emerge, we'll be able to progressively streamline the check-in experience.

Online check-in is still available for all passengers from 48 hours prior to departure.  You can check in online, provide your travel document details, and select your seat as normal.  We are currently not able to provide mobile or self-print boarding passes due to the number of regulatory checks that must be completed.

Due to the number of government restrictions that are currently in place, we're not able to provide mobile or self-print boarding passes in the short term.  Once travel bubbles and corridors are established, we will be able to provide these again.
