    1. Beijing: imperial majesty and cinema magic 

    For an immersive experience of court life, stroll through the Forbidden City in period costumes as you marvel at the architectural grandeur of the Ming and Qing Dynasty-era palaces and its imperial garden. And no trip to Beijing is complete without a walking tour along the Mutianyu Great Wall. This section is less crowded and offers scenic views and a toboggan ride back down. 

    As a showstopper, Universal Beijing Resort takes visitors on a journey through the magic of cinema – from Harry Potter to Minions, plus the world’s first Kung Fu Panda Land.

    2. Shanghai: Disney fantasy to science education

    It’s every child’s dream at Shanghai Disneyland . Take photos in front of the iconic castle before indulging in high-seas excitement at Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure, or take a ride on Zootopia: Hot Pursuit. 

    More curious minds will love the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum , where interactive exhibitions combine science and fun. By night, join the Huangpu River cruise and soak up the impressive skyline over the Bund and Lujiazui.

    3. Chengdu: pandas by day, opera by night

    Less than a 30-minute drive from Chengdu, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is home to around 200 bears. Morning is the best time to visit on a VIP package, as you’ll witness the cubs being fed – and even kids can get involved by helping caretakers make wowotou: nutrient balls made of corn, soybean and bamboo leaves.  

    Alternatively, you can spend the afternoon soaking up 2,000 years of history on Jinli Ancient Street or head to the Sichuan Opera for a stunning display of cultural heritage. You can also uncover the history behind the 3,000-year-old Shu civilisation at the Sanxingdui Museum.

    4. Xi’an: a journey back in time 

    Immerse yourself in ancient history at the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum , where terracotta warriors represent the formidable power of the Qin Dynasty.  

    For a more contemporary perspective, rent bicycles and explore the ancient Xi’an City Wall – visit at sunset for breathtaking views to boot. Meanwhile, the Datang Everbright City really comes to life after dark. Let the Tang Dynasty cultural performance transport you to a bygone age.

    5. Hangzhou: lakeside vistas meet Hello Kitty

    Hangzhou is a hub of poetry and literature and never fails to set an idyllic stage for family adventures. Take a scenic boat trip on the famous West Lake or head to the Songcheng scenic area to watch The Show of Songcheng, a historical performance that impresses with its dynamic stagecraft and vivid storytelling.

    6. Sanya: a tropical isle for a more relaxing holiday

    The sun-kissed paradise guarantees a blissful family vacation with sun, sea and sand. The crystal-clear waters of Yalong Wan and Wuzhizhou island are ideal for swimming and snorkelling, while youngsters will love the Yate Landisi Water Park , with its marine creatures and water slides. For nature lovers, the Yanoda Rain Forest Culture Tourist Zone is the perfect place to go on an adventurous jungle trek, or learn more about the rich heritage of Li culture.

    7. Xiamen: island charms and coastal calm 

    Surrounded by Xiamen’s laid-back vibes, Gulangyu stands out as a perfect destination for families. The car-free island is only a five-minute ferry ride from downtown and is filled with music and romance. For music buffs there’s the Piano Museum , or get hands-on at the Art West Zone with monthly themes ranging from blue dyeing to ceramics. And if time allows, a day trip to Nanjing Tulou highlights the ingenuity of Hakka communal living.

    8. Guangzhou: the ultimate playground

    Guangzhou is amusement park heaven. Chimelong Tourist Resort is a must-visit: Chimelong Paradise features adrenaline-pumping rollercoasters and classic carousels, while Chimelong Safari Park delights little ones with pandas, giraffes and more.
