The elegantly imposing, neoclassical building in the middle of Singapore’s Fort Canning Park has been many things over its 100-year history, serving as a military headquarters, a private members’ club and the luxury hotel Hotel Fort Canning. But its most recent iteration, METT Singapore , is its coolest. Opened in October 2025, it combines the building’s storied history with a distinctly hipper edge, focusing not just on the stay, but also on wellness, the city – and some very good eats.

What's the deal?

The METT chain runs boutique, vibe-forward hotels in spots like Bodrum, Milan, Marbella and Barcelona. Its first Asian hotel layers a dose of Mediterranean charm over a very British building, right in the verdant heart of Singapore.

The property is relatively compact, constrained by the protected heritage building itself, with just 84 rooms and suites. Interiors are courtesy of designer Jeffrey Wilkes, whose previous credits include the Mandarin Oriental Singapore, the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok and Bali's Mandapa, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve. The design leans into the building’s history, with black-and-white accents that feel cultured, not stark. The rooms themselves feel large and flooded with light thanks to the massive windows set into four-metre-high ceilings, which look out either over the city or Fort Canning Park itself. It’s a glorious green view of the Garden City.

Overall, the rooms are elegant and calming, with occasional dark-wood furniture offsetting those big, beautiful walls and bright, speckled-marble bathrooms. In our Junior Suite, both the living area and the bathroom benefitted from massive windows – and thankfully, the hotel is set back enough from the park that you don’t feel too overlooked during your ablutions.

Outside the rooms, culinary director Daniele Sperindio has opened L’Amo Bistrò del Mare, which serves classic Italian fare with an emphasis on fresh seafood. The vitello tonnato is a true highlight – with veal so tender and a sauce so light that it feels like eating a little caper cloud. There’s more on the way, too: Sperindio is set to bring Michelin-starred Art di Daniele Sperindio from the National Gallery of Singapore to METT, with an opening planned for the first quarter of 2027.

Meanwhile, Canning Bar and Lounge is a leafy locale with high-quality all-day dining and inspired cocktails which lean into native botanicals, such as the 1822, a Singapore take on a Moscow mule that’s spiced with pear and nutmeg, ginger and calamansi.

Why stay?

But it’s hardly all indulgence: the METT Singapore also puts the emphasis on wellness, from casual to clinical. There are two pools: an adults-only lap pool and a chilled, beach-club-style pool for the whole family; as well as two padel courts and a superbly appointed 3,200-square-foot gym. Then there’s the Longevity Suite, a standalone biohacking clinic offering cryotherapy, hyperbaric oxygen treatments, dry floating and near-infrared light therapy.

These facilities are shared with neighbouring Madison House, a brand-new private members’ club opening in November 2026 in the vein of Soho House. Guests of the hotel become resident members of the club during their stay, offering the chance to socialise with Singapore’s hip, young, clubbable types.

The hotel sits in the heart of beautiful Fort Canning Park, and it’s a delight to head out the doors for an early-morning stroll through the leafy grounds of the park. While the hotel feels secluded thanks to its splendid green isolation, it’s actually highly accessible: just a 10-minute walk to Orchard Road, and there are also free one-way hotel transfers within a five-kilometre radius of the property. If you’re looking for a bit more context, the hotel’s vintage Vespa sidecar tours are a superb way to explore the streets of Singapore.

Cathay Pacific editors say…

“The METT Singapore strikes a balance of heritage charm and modern cool. Don’t miss sundowners on the terrace, when the last cast of sunset turns that creamy white exterior an unforgettably warm orange.”
