Anyone checking into JW Marriott Singapore South Beach will be impressed by its lifts. We’re serious: inside them is a colour-changing conjuration a lively underwater world. It’s not just eye candy, either – but a celebration of heritage.

On Beach Road in the coastal area, Singapore’s JW Marriott property occupies three 1930s army blocks and the former Non-Commissioned Officers’ Club, which were eventually disused after years of land reclamation. These heritage buildings, now part of the Marriott location, are neatly conserved. The curved lines of the complex pay homage to its maritime roots, with new structures seamlessly integrated with the preserved military surroundings – a perfect balance between old glory and contemporary style.

The hotel is located opposite War Memorial Park in Singapore’s arts and cultural district. For a cultural outing, St Andrew’s Cathedral, Former City Hall and National Gallery Singapore are within easy reach on foot along St. Andrew’s Road. Many other sightseeing and shopping attractions are also nearby: Suntec City is just a five-minute walk away; the Marina Bay Sands sprawl and Gardens by the Bay, a 10-minute drive; and the property offers direct access to the Esplanade station on the MRT yellow line, making it a convenient base for sightseeing or frequenting the business districts.

    Why stay?

From the main lobby to guestrooms, artistic details are everywhere. We stayed in the Premier Marina Bay View Room – bright and airy, with glass partitioning for an added sense of space. The floor-to-ceiling windows afford an impressive panorama of Marina Bay and the city’s skyline that appears to shift depending on the light at different times of the day.

Unwind at Spa by JW, a place for rejuvenating treatments, or one of the hotel’s two infinity pools, which offer the best vantage for pyrotechnic shows and Turn 7, aka Memorial Corner, of the Singapore Grand Prix’s Marina Bay Street Circuit.

There’s a multitude of dining options at JW Marriott Singapore South Beach. Madame Fan, within The NCO Club, offers a delightful culinary experience fusing exquisite Cantonese cuisine, envisioned by executive Chinese chef Pak Chee Yit, with its sophisticated decor. The restaurant has a popular cocktail bar, prized for creative concoctions with a Chinese twist.

    Cathay Pacific editors say…

“If you’re likely to be spending the evening inside the hotel like I do when travelling for work, you won’t be short of options to augment your in-house experience at JW Marriott Singapore South Beach. Hit the swimming pool on the 18th floor for a 360-degree panorama of the city at night fall or treat yourself to a live music gig at Cool Cats in The NCO Club. For a solitary drinking moment, choose from the 100-plus varieties of gin at the lobby lounge, Tonic.”
