Hong Kong's Le French May culture festival is celebrating its 30th year, and what better way to enjoy the festivities than by indulging in some of the city's finest French cuisine?

Brasserie on the Eighth  

Known for its open kitchen and warm, friendly service, Brasserie on the Eighth shines a spotlight on contemporary French fare. Our pick is the weekend champagne brunch: you’ll find classic dishes like roasted lamb rack and Boston lobster at the buffet, and eggs Benedict served to the table – washed down, naturally, with plentiful bubbles.

Maison ES

You won’t be able to miss the entrance to Maison ES , which takes its design cues from a Parisian flower shop – complete with fresh-cut flowers and an attendant bicycle. The restaurant is headed by Shanghainese chef Esther Sham, whose cooking intertwines her classical French training with Asian ingredients. Standouts on the menu include langoustine wontons flavoured with a hairy crab nage, and XO sauce geoduck linguine with garlic frites.

Écriture   

Executive chef Maxime Gilbert won Écriture two Michelin stars thanks to his merging of the best of French and Japanese cuisines and produce. With its floor-to-ceiling 26th-floor views of Hong Kong’s skyline and harbourfront, the pared-back dining room sets the stage for a modern menu featuring such dishes as Kagoshima wagyu beef mille-feuille, caviar and uni tarts, and beef consommé with wagyu kombujime.

Bouchon Bistro Français  

Located in SoHo on busy Elgin Street, Bouchon Bistro Français boasts a relaxed setting while still being dead- serious about French cuisine. On the menu you’ll find French bistro favourites such as steak frites (with a choice between hanger, ribeye and tenderloin), confit de canard, and French onion soup. In the evenings, guests spill out from the cosy dining room into the informal al fresco dining area at the front of the restaurant.
