It’s time to saddle up. From the rise of “horse girl” fashion and the success of TV shows like Yellowstone to the popularity of the Longines Hong Kong International Horse Show, equestrianism has leapt into mainstream culture, and is now shaping the way we travel, too. Increasingly, riders and non-riders alike are seeking holidays that combine adventure, nature and a slower, more mindful pace of life.
“There’s been a shift towards experiences that feel meaningful, exciting and restorative. Travellers are craving connection – to nature, to adventure and to themselves,” says Aimee Davidson, global brand and marketing manager at Globetrotting , a travel agency that organises holidays on horseback all over the world. “There’s something transformative about seeing the world from the saddle of a horse. It slows you down, grounds you in the moment and connects you to the landscape, the local culture and yourself in a way few other holidays can.”
Whether you’re an experienced equestrian or a first-time rider, there’s a trail for you. Let us take the reins and guide you through some of the world’s finest horseback adventures.

Be honest about your experience. It’s not fun to embark on a ride that’s beyond your abilities. Being realistic about your skill level will ensure you have a ride that’s fun and, most importantly, safe.
Different tour operators use different saddles. Western-style saddles, most common in the US, are wider and allow you to sit deeper. English-style saddles, used predominantly in Europe, are smaller, lighter and might feel less secure, particularly for novices. Check the tack on offer if you prefer one style over another.
If you’re accustomed to riding inside an arena, a trail ride in an uncontrolled outdoor environment might seem daunting. Remember that these horses spend their lives outdoors and know the trails well. Of course, no animal is completely predictable, but tour providers carefully match their horses to each guest to provide a safe and enjoyable experience.
