Paris’s exclusive Le Meurice moved to its current location in 1835, and since then it has been the first port of call for heads of state, dignitaries and royals. So much so, in fact, that it’s affectionately known as "the hotel of kings." And when it comes to some of the past century’s greatest artists – Pablo Picasso, Coco Chanel, and Jay-Z to name a few – many have called Le Meurice home. Salvador Dali even has a presidential suite named in his honour.
The hotel is a stone’s throw from Paris's shopping hotspots, including the prestigious boutiques of Place Vendôme and the Rue Saint-Honoré, while just around the corner you can find the historic patisserie Angelina. Iconic Parisian attractions, such as the Louvre, Tuileries Garden, and the Place de la Concorde, are also all within walking distance. And despite the extensive renovations that were carried out in 2019, the hotel’s architecture and design seamlessly marry the historical and the contemporary.
Paris is known for having some of the finest restaurants in the world, and the food at Le Meurice is no exception. The two-Michelin-starred Restaurant le Meurice Alain Ducasse is adorned like a modern-day Versailles and features executive chef Amaury Bouhours' creative French cuisine, which showcases locally sourced sea bream and scallops. Meanwhile, Restaurant Le Dalí , which pays homage to the Spanish artist, presents bold designs by virtuoso Philippe Starck and his daughter Ara. The three-dimensional painted ceiling is something to behold.
Beyond the seasonal dishes, Le Meurice’s afternoon tea is also a delight, with connoisseurs eager to sample the creations of star pastry chef Cédric Grolet . His magical cube cakes come in a range of flavours, and his remarkably lifelike fruit cakes attract dessert enthusiasts from all over. If you miss afternoon tea and don’t mind the long queues, then a visit to La Pâtisserie du Meurice par Cedric Grolet is highly recommended.
The hotel's interior design exudes classical French aesthetics, with each guest room boasting a unique style and colour palette combined with elegant, antique furniture. Every detail here captures the eye. And if you’re after a panoramic view of Paris's numerous landmarks, then the 6,674-square-foot Belle Etoile suite will fulfil that desire, and more. Located on the penthouse floor, the most striking feature is its terrace garden, which provides a private, green sanctuary where you’ll be surrounded by the timeless magic of the City of Light.
"If you want to embark on a Parisian shopping spree immediately after you’ve landed, consider visiting the hotel's Le Spa wellness centre after check-in. Treatments featuring the Swiss luxury skincare brand Valmont provide an immediate revitalisation – especially the beauty treatments infused with glacier spring water, which stimulate cellular regeneration, instantly plumping and hydrating the skin to restore your radiance. The Turkish bath is also a personal recommendation. Relaxing there after dinner effectively dispels any fatigue brought on by jet lag."
