Before visiting Canada, I’d seen countless images of the Capilano Suspension Bridge on calendars and screensavers, without ever knowing where it was. When I discovered that I could see it during a stop in Vancouver, I knew I had to go.

The best things to do in Vancouver

Visit Capilano Suspension Bridge Park for a day trip, of course. From the city centre, you can either take a free shuttle bus there or opt for the more exciting SeaBus across Vancouver Harbour. Choosing the latter means you get to watch seaplanes landing on the water around you.

The thrills intensify once you arrive at the bridge. The distance to the other side and across Capilano River seems infinite and, as soon as you step on, it starts shaking. Luckily, being a flight attendant, I’m very comfortable with heights. In fact, I’m a bit of a thrill-seeker. I would love to do a bungee jump there. Once you make it across the bridge, you have the entire park to explore. It’s thick with trees, and the only sounds are those of birds and waterfalls. It’s like being in another world.

Where to eat around Capilano Suspension Bridge Park

Dining options around the park are limited, but you’ll be too busy exploring to eat anyway. I recommend having a good breakfast before you set off then arriving back in Vancouver hungry. I especially love the restaurants around Richmond.

Must-pack day-trip essentials

Bringing your own reusable water bottle spares you from paying high prices for drinks near the park. The weather is also unpredictable, so make sure to bring a jacket and umbrella. You might be tempted to wear your best clothes for a photo on the bridge, but I promise you’ll be better off staying comfortable and dry.
