Asia’s most unmissable street market: Raohe Night Market, Taipei

Taipei is a city that never ceases to surprise and enthral. From trendy neighbourhoods to revered heritage sites, and from leafy hiking trails to hot spring havens, there's always something still to be explored – particularly when it comes to culinary delights.

The city’s many street markets are a miscellany of glowing lanterns, shuffling feet and tantalising aromas. Though it’s hard to imagine visiting only one, if you do, make it Raohe Night Market in Taipei’s Songshan district. The variety of delicacies on offer here can be overwhelming, but we recommend sampling the fried potato and fried chicken, and grabbing an ever-popular bubble milk tea. For the adventurous foodie, the pungent stinky tofu is sure to leave an impression. Handicrafts are also sold here, allowing you to take a piece of the island home with you.

What our panellist says: “Shaved ice, stinky tofu, bite-sized sausages and countless stalls of fried potatoes made Raohe Night Market a winner.” –  Ian Law, industry expert and Cathay Members’ Choice Awards 2024 panellist.

Asia’s must-do outdoor experience: Mount Fuji, Japan

The picture-perfect Mount Fuji might be Japan's most recognisable landmark, a symbol of national spirit and natural beauty that has inspired countless artists, poets and adventurers. The majestic mountain and its surrounding countryside are a  paradise for nature lovers, with each season bringing its own delights.

If you’re planning to hike Mount Fuji, it’s important to book early – the hiking season is relatively short, running from early July to early September. Alternatively, spend a memorable night camping at one of the Fujigoko (Fuji Five Lakes) located at the northern foot of the mountain; you’ll get to wake up to witness the first rays of sunlight hit Fuji’s snow-capped peak.

What our panellist says: “Camping on the beach of any of the Fujigoko is a truly exceptional experience, with Mount Fuji greeting you good morning as the sun rises.” –  Jeremy Bek, industry expert and Cathay Members’ Choice Awards 2024 panellist.
