We spoke to Ziv Mok, Flight Purser at Cathay Pacific, about his favourite destination: Monaco. He shares the best things to see, do and eat in this glittering European principality.
“Monaco is pure coastal glamour. The residents of Europe’s second-smallest country live the good life, enjoying wine, sunny weather and beautiful scenery. I visited with another crew member during a long layover in Madrid, but it’s even more convenient to travel there from Milan.”
Walk up the city’s slopes for picturesque views over the harbour, which is full of private yachts – just about everybody owns one. Monaco is also ideal if you enjoy shopping, especially when it comes to hunting down rare luxury items. I bought two designer bags I couldn’t find anywhere else.
Lastly, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that Monaco is also synonymous with Formula 1. In fact, it’s partly the reason my crewmate and I visited, as she’s a big racing fan. Monaco’s famous F1 route winds and loops through the city’s streets, and there are several notoriously challenging sections where it’s popular to snap a photo.

For the best (and more affordable) restaurants, I recommend taking the 20-minute train journey to nearby Nice. There, in particular, you’ll find excellent oysters that are fresh, plump and juicy.
My crewmate and I found we couldn’t join the mobile network in Monaco, so I recommend buying a travel sim card that specifically offers coverage in the principality.
