The InterContinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping is the new star on the northern Thai city’s hotel landscape. Just beyond the old city’s walls, the property is set within sprawling grounds on the site of the former famed Imperial Hotel. Its creation has been more transformation than renovation, with a comprehensive redesign of the building and its surrounds. The result is a destination that feels part-resort, part-sophisticated urban business hotel, with a lovely sense of balance.
Next to the night bazaars of Changklan Road and between the Old City and the Ping River, the hotel is a perfect base for a stay in Chiang Mai.
The Lanna heritage of Northern Thailand is at the heart of the InterContinential Chiang Mai The Mae Ping. With little patterned and mosaic touches and splashes of green and wood, the bright and open rooms set the scene.
The food at all-day restaurant The Gad Lanna celebrates the flavours of the region, including steaks, seafood, charcoal-grilled skewers and incredibly fragrant curries. Hong’s Chinese Restaurant swirls together authentic Sichuanese, Cantonese and Taiwanese flavours, and its sibling venue Hong’s Sky Bar serves cocktails inspired by local produce along with a view.
A new Club InterContinental wing is in the works as well, which will add extra luxury to this fantastic new Chiang Mai destination once unveiled next year.
Breakfast or an evening cocktail overlooking the vast central lawn, where a beautiful wat takes centre stage.
