    Moments worth sharing: your 90-minute Hong Kong transit guide

    Whether you’re jetting off with a special someone, or embarking on a holiday with friends, you can make the most of your hour-and-a-half layover at Hong Kong International Airport.

    Head straight to the main departures concourse area by the low-numbered gates, where you’ll find restaurants and shops, all conveniently clustered together. 

    And don’t forget to sign up for HKIA’s loyalty programme, ⁠HKairport Rewards , to earn points and rewards for your spending at the airport.

    2. Share a meal

    Feeling peckish? You’re spoilt for choice with the range of cuisines on offer. For an authentic taste of Hong Kong food, swing by Men Wah Bing Teng for bing sutt dishes. Quick and delicious, their Hong Kong-style roasted meat, also known as siu mei, can be enjoyed solo or with a companion. 

    If you’re in the mood for Taiwanese, head to Yuan is Here for delicious street food staples – think popcorn chicken, sweet taro balls and braised pork rice. It’s best to go with a group so you can try as many dishes as possible. Just don’t forget to order bubble teas for the table.

    Seeking something heartier? Nothing says “comfort food” quite like a gourmet burger at Beef & Liberty . Its varied menu also features vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options, making it the perfect choice for different diners.

    3. Refuel and recharge

    In need of a pick-me-up? There are plenty of speciality coffee shops that will have you revved up and ready for the next leg of your journey.

    Take a detour to Gate 6 or Gate 25 to savour a delectable selection of French pastries and baked goods at Maison Kayser . Pair your mouthwatering treats with a steaming cup of your favourite brew or wash them down with a refreshing beverage before resuming your journey with a renewed hop in your step.

    Looking for a comfortable spot where you can all sit down? Stop by Italian coffee shop Ritazza for delicious salads, sandwiches and drinks, or beeline to KaravanStop by Nodi for artisanal coffee and bites in a space inspired by Hong Kong’s iconic hiking trails.

    4. Admire the magnificent views

    There’s no shortage of viewing spots around the airport, whether you’re looking to soak in scenic panoramas or capture pictures of planes taking off.

    You’ll find some of the best views from the Sky Bridge, the 200-metre walkway that connects Terminal 1 and the T1 Satellite Concourse. The floor-to-ceiling windows offer incredible vistas across the tarmac, and a partially glass floor lets you to watch planes taxi beneath your feet.

    Want to stop and bask in the view? At the end of the Sky Bridge you’ll find the Sky Deck, which boasts plenty of seating and binoculars. Alternatively, head up to level 7 East Hall and step out to the Sky Garden open-air terrace – it’s a great place to pose for a group selfie as the planes fly overhead.

    5. Pick up last-minute supplies

    The airport’s first autonomous convenience store, travelwell makes for a handy pitstop before you fly. Simply tap your credit card as you enter, pick up all the drinks, snacks and souvenirs your heart desires, and then head straight to your gate. Smart tracking technology means you won’t waste time waiting in line to pay.

    Looking for a holiday read? With international magazines and bestselling books in both English and Chinese, Relay offers a wealth of choices. Grab a magazine for the plane, an inspirational book for hotel lounging or a juicy novel for the beach.

    6. All set to take off

      Allow 40 minutes

    Are you ready to fly? We recommend that you arrive at your gate at least 30 minutes before departure to allow plenty of time to board. If you are departing from Gates 40 to 80, the automated people mover – the airport’s driverless train shuttle – will get you there in a flash.
