    Departure tax

What is the new air passenger departure tax?

Starting 1 Oct 2025, passengers aged 12 and above flying out of Hong Kong International Airport will be charged a HK$200 departure tax as part of a government-mandated adjustment. This applies to tickets purchased on or after that date.

Transit passengers and travellers who enter Hong Kong by land or sea, and depart by air via Hong Kong International Airport within two days may apply for a refund — as long as you haven’t exited Hong Kong by land or sea on the day of your flight or the day before.

Refunds must be made within 28 days after departure.
