Step inside Cathay Pacific’s redesigned Beijing lounge

Airports can be hectic places, filled with busy ground staff and travellers rushing to their gates. Amid the hustle and bustle, Cathay Pacific’s award-winning lounges offer a tranquil escape for our passengers. One such haven is our newly reopened flagship lounge in Beijing, transformed from top to bottom.

Located in Terminal 3 of Beijing Capital International Airport, our 9,074sq ft lounge features a variety of dining options, generous seating and more private spaces. With signature cherry wood finishes and refined brass accents, the space exudes elegance and warmth – a perfect retreat for travellers to unwind and enjoy a moment of peace before their journey. 

“The key concept that unites all Cathay lounges is that they’re residential – designed to feel like a home away from home,” says Marcus Lui, Head of End-to-End Customer Experience and Strategy. “We built an alternating series of enclosed and open spaces to transform the original site, once exposed and bare, into an intimate, familiar place where customers instantly feel at ease.”

The lounge is filled with many familiar thoughtful touches beloved by our Cathay members, such as the signature Noodle Bar. In Beijing, you’ll enjoy our ever-popular dan dan noodles alongside a selection of dishes inspired by authentic local cuisine. 

Creating a sense of place was essential – not only through regional delicacies, but also by honouring ancient Chinese tea culture at the Teahouse. Following the success of our first Teahouse at The Pier, Business in Hong Kong International Airport, we’ve brought the concept to Beijing. A Cathay Tea Specialist is on hand to introduce passengers to different varieties and prepare the perfect brew. 

The experience is further elevated by a curated selection of artworks, establishing a dialogue between generations of Hong Kong and Beijing artists. Curated by Dr Henrietta Tsui-Leung, founder of Hong Kong’s Ora-Ora Gallery , the collection includes a map-like painting by ink artist Xu Lei, drawings on boarding passes by artist, architect and collector William Lim and Zhang Yanzi’s pair of works inspired by different eye colours.  

At the entrance, a specially commissioned calligraphic piece by Chui Pui Chee bears the characters “翱翔”. “In English, it translates to ‘soaring’, but it means so much more in Chinese,” says Lui. “It speaks of ambition, aspiration, freedom and adventure, and captures Cathay’s Move Beyond spirit in a poetic way.”
