Before planning your trip to Foshan, consider where you want to be based, as there are three main areas to choose from in this bustling Greater Bay Area metropolis. Most tourists prefer staying in the historic downtown of Chancheng, close to most of the main sights and rich in restaurants and nightlife. If you’re on a shorter getaway – or a trip that’s more business than pleasure – consider the modern hub of Nanhai, a slick yet picturesque commercial neighbourhood close to the calm waters of Qiandeng Lake. If it’s all business, or you simply want to bag a luxury bargain away from the action, then head straight to the manufacturing hub of Shunde.

As the third-largest city in Guangdong – just behind Guangzhou and Shenzhen – Foshan has a population of 9.6 million, dwarfing that of Hong Kong and Macao together. All the more reason to make your trip that little bit more memorable by staying at one of Foshan’s best hotels.
