Cathay Pacific update on Bali flight disruptions

Cathay Pacific Airways advises that disruptions to the airline’s services to and from Denpasar in Bali are continuing today.

Since yesterday (27 January), flights to and from the Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali have been affected by an ash cloud from the Tengger Caldera volcano in Java, Indonesia.

As a result of the impact of volcanic ash, no Cathay Pacific services between Hong Kong and Denpasar were able to operate yesterday or today. Plans are being made to operate flights tomorrow (29 January), but the situation is still dependent on the ash cloud situation based on forecasts that will be provided in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Passengers are advised to check the latest flight information at the airline’s website, www.cathaypacific.com, and to input their contact details in the Manage My Booking function at the website to ensure they get the latest flight information via SMS or email.

A Cathay Pacific spokesperson said: “Passengers can be assured that there is no greater priority than safety at Cathay Pacific, and we took the decision to delay flights to and from Bali in response to the latest volcanic ash forecasts. We will do everything we can to resume our Bali operations at the earliest possible opportunity. We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused and we would like to thank our passengers for their patience.”

Due to the flight disruptions, Cathay Pacific has announced that, with immediate effect, all rebooking and rerouting charges will be waived for tickets issued worldwide on or before 28 January for travel on Cathay Pacific involving Denpasar between 28 January and 31 January 2011. The waiver is for all confirmed bookings irrespective of fare type. However, there will be no waiver for cancellation and refund charges.

Cathay Pacific will continue to monitor the situation in Denpasar and will issue further updates should there be any changes to the flight schedule.
