Dragonair Offers New Taste of Authentic Chinese Cuisine Inflight

14 Jul 2010

Airline partners with Michelin Star Restaurant Lei Garden to provide exciting new menu choices in the air

(HONG KONG) Dragonair today announced a new partnership with the renowned Michelin-starred Lei Garden restaurant to launch an inflight promotional menu featuring specially designed Chinese dishes. The new menu marks another step in Dragonair’s continued effort to provide the best travel experience for its passengers.

The menu designed in conjunction with Lei Garden will be featured in all classes of travel from Hong Kong to Beijing and Shanghai, as well as in First and Business Class from Hong Kong to Taipei and Kaohsiung. The Lei Garden dishes will be available from 16 July until July 2011. (See appendix for menu details).

Speaking at an inflight menu tasting event today, Dragonair General Manager Inflight Services Cecilia Leung said: “We are best known for our creative, high quality and tasteful inflight meals where we frequently rotate our menus to give our passengers, especially frequent flyers, new experiences every time they are on board. Menu design and selection are critical elements for inflight catering. Therefore, we only partner with the best restaurants to create enticing new menus to add even more sparkle to our food. As a Hong Kong based airline, we also strive to promote Hong Kong by introducing varieties of local Hong Kong cuisines.

“Lei Garden, a Michelin starred restaurant, needs no introduction to the Hong Kong community. It is well-known for its high quality and creative cuisines. This is the first time for Dragonair to partner with Lei Garden. We are very excited to work together to bring inflight dining experience to an even higher level.” Ms Leung added.

With a history going back 36 years, the Lei Garden Restaurant Group has always been a favourite with Hong Kong diners. Lei Garden Restaurant Senior Manager (Operations) Taylor Pang said: “The Lei Garden Restaurant Group is very honoured to be invited by Dragonair to provide recipes for its inflight meals. We are certain that the internationally acclaimed service of Dragonair coupled with our Michelin-rated Chinese cuisine will take dining in the air to even greater heights.

“We have put extensive effort into testing and re-testing our recipes, selecting dishes from our extensive menu that will meet the requirements for serving in the air while maintaining flavours and aromas to match what is served directly from our kitchen,” Mr Pang said.

To commemorate Dragonair’s 25th anniversary, a series of new inflight menus covering both Chinese and Western cuisines and designed by renowned restaurants, including JW's California and Dynasty Restaurant, have been introduced since mid-April. Other anniversary activities over the course of the year include a specially designed aircraft livery, super saver promotions, a special themed website and enhanced inflight services including more duty-free inflight sales items, a monthly lucky draw and the launch of a home delivery service.
