Dragonair Aviation Certificate Programme 2015 calls for applications

25 Nov 2014

Applications are now being invited for the 2015 Dragonair Aviation Certificate Programme, a key initiative under the Dragonair Youth Aviation Academy. Organised by Dragonair in conjunction with the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps, the nine-month educational initiative, is designed to educate, motivate and inspire young people, aged 18 to 25, who are interested in pursuing an aviation-related career, by offering them a comprehensive aviation training programme and a range of aviation activities.

Each participant will be mentored by a Dragonair pilot who will offer guidance and advice to help their professional and personal development. Participants will have the opportunity to take an observation flight operated by their pilot mentors, experiencing everything from the pre-flight briefing to the actual flight operation. Participants will also learn about the operations of various aviation-related organisations in Hong Kong and experience the passion and commitment that keeps driving the industry forward.

Over the past nine years, the Dragonair Aviation Certificate Programme has had a positive impact in terms of nurturing future talent for the aviation industry in Hong Kong. More than 40% of the Programme’s graduates have already embarked on careers in various areas of the aviation industry including aircraft engineering, air traffic control and ground handling, while a number are now working as pilots with Dragonair and sister airline Cathay Pacific.

Amy Tsang graduated from the Programme in 2009 and is now a Junior First Officer at Dragonair. She believes the Programme is inspirational not only in terms of the aviation knowledge it provides, but also in giving young people the positive attitude and determination needed to pursue their goals. “I am very grateful for what my mentor Geoff McDonald taught me. He inspired me to always keep my passion alive. Geoff knew that I aspired to become a pilot at Dragonair, and aside from giving me valuable advice for my interview preparation, he offered words of encouragement that gave me the courage and confidence I needed to land a job as a pilot.”

Young people interested in exploring the exciting world of aviation should not miss out on this great learning opportunity. Programme details and application procedures can be found at the programme website, www.dragonair.com/aviationacademy. Applications for the 2015 programme can be submitted online on or before 14 December 2014.
