Cathay Pacific thrilled crowds in Aviation Days

Cathay Pacific is in full support of the "Aviation Days" held this weekend and has lined up many exciting exhibitions and activities for the public.

"Aviation Days 2003" has been organised in celebration of 100 years of powered flight. First day of the event was held today 13 December 2003 at the old Kai Tak Airport.

Cathay Pacific is playing a major role in the event this year, including a display of a hot-air balloon and a real aircraft engine. The airline also has five booths, which features a mock-up aircraft cabin complete with cockpit equipment and cabin facilities. There also are informative booths on Cathay Pacific's history, career opportunities in the airline, the "I Can Fly" Programme and Cathay Pacific souvenirs.

Other than outdoor activities, Cathay Pacific is holding career talks and conduct seminar sessions on basic flying knowledge. Career talks are held between 3pm and 4pm. The "Basics of Flying" sessions, conducted by Cathay Pacific's local pilots, takes place between 4pm and 5pm. Both seminars are available to the public throughout the weekend.

The "Aviation Days" opening ceremony was held at 2pm today. Attending the ceremony was Cathay Pacific Chief Operating Officer Mr Philip Chen, Cathay Pacific pilots, 1,000 youngsters from the I Can Fly programme, as well as artistes from the "Triumph in the Skies" drama series.

Cathay Pacific Director and Chief Operating Officer Mr Philip Chen said: "Both Hong Kong's aviation and Cathay Pacific's histories are intricately linked. We are delighted to be part of the centenary celebrations for 100 years of powered flight. As Hong Kong's airline, we will continue our efforts to promote aviation to the local community and further enhance Hong Kong's position as a global aviation hub."

The Aviation Days is running from 10am to 5pm on 13 and 14 December.
