Cathay Pacific launches Wilderness Experience Programme
10 Apr 2002
Cathay Pacific and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups are extending an invitation to Hong Kong students aged between 15 and 18 to take part in the Cathay Pacific International Wilderness Experience Programme 2002. This year's event also marks the 9th year Cathay Pacific has been involved in this wilderness experience programme for youths.
Sixty students from Hong Kong, Mainland China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Singapore and South Africa will take part in an ecological course between 21 July to 1 August 2002. Most expenses - from the cost of air tickets, course fees, accommodation, meals, and ground transport in South Africa will be sponsored by Cathay Pacific while the participating students will only need to pay HK$500 for their travel insurance and training package.
This year's International Wilderness Experience Programme will take place in South Africa, which boasts several nature reserves containing a wide variety of wild- and plant-life, including more than 80 species of mammals and 230 species of birds. Instead of attending lectures, the students will be guided by a team of highly qualified Educational Officers and experience nature through hikes, camping trips and wildlife observation. They will also share each other's cultural heritage through wedding role-play, group discussion, as well as traditional songs and dances.
Cathay Pacific is committed to developing youth potential through innovative educational projects. Over the past nine years, more than 300 students have taken part in the Cathay Pacific International Wilderness Experience Programme.
