09 Apr 2001
Cathay Pacific Airways today welcomed a decision by Japan to extend the duration of multiple-entry visas for Hong Kong SAR passport holders from one year to three years. The airline believes the new arrangement will further encourage the growth of tourism from Hong Kong to Japan.
Cathay Pacific's Director and Chief Operating Officer Philip Chen said: "This is welcome news and we sincerely appreciate the efforts of the Hong Kong Government in negotiating this agreement with Japan. The extension will give the Hong Kong travelling public greater convenience and contribute to the growth of the local tourism industry."
Mr Chen said a further relaxation in visa requirements between Hong Kong and Japan would help strengthen tourism and trade links even more.
Cathay Pacific currently flies to four destinations in Japan: Fukuoka, Nagoya, Osaka, and Tokyo.
Cathay Pacific also welcomes the confirmation that Norway and Iceland have joined the European Union in granting visa-free access to HKSAR passport holders.Cathay Pacific Airways
