Top business hotel: Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing, Beijing

After much anticipation, Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing has finally arrived at the Chinese capital. With 73 rooms and suites, and views of the Forbidden City, the luxury hotel draws inspiration from the cultural heritage of the area, with motifs of porcelain, lattice and koi adding to the contemporary design.

Location

In the last few years, Wangfujing – the commercial and cultural centre of Beijing – has transformed into a fancy shopping area. The opening of WF Central, a luxury shopping centre in which the hotel is housed, brought luxury to the conversation – and the property is the perfect base for mixing work with cultural exploration.

The Rooms

The hotel might be small but the rooms are anything but. The entry-level category starts at 592 square feet, and features a day bed and a large designer table for dining or working. Some of the suites even have their own outdoor terraces. As you’d expect, it’s all thoroughly elegant, embellished with striking carpets and Chinese design touches.

Facilities

The Taipan Room is the hotel’s main event space for formal gatherings, but more casual and intimate meetings can be held at the Library – perhaps the hotel’s most Instagrammable spot. An expansive terrace overlooking the Forbidden City is perfect for al fresco dining and drinks, while Mandarin Oriental’s signature outlets – Mandarin Grill and MO Bar – also make an appearance.
