Cathay Pacific operations to North America disrupted by snowstorms

Cathay Pacific Airways announced today that it is working hard to restore normal operations to and from New York following extensive disruptions due to heavy snow on the east coast of the United States. However, the situation at John F Kennedy International Airport is still very difficult and the plan to resume flights from New York is subject to a number of operational constraints.

No Cathay Pacific flights have been able to leave New York starting from the CX831 service on 26 December. For flights from Hong Kong, the CX840 service to New York on 26 December was diverted to Toronto due to the weather conditions. On 27 December, flight CX830 from Hong Kong to New York was diverted to Toronto while flight CX888 to New York was delayed in Vancouver.

The three New York-bound flights that were either diverted or delayed have all now landed in New York following the partial reopening of the JFK airport. Flight CX831 from 26 December has now departed from JFK and Cathay Pacific hopes to resume full operations from New York today, though the operational situation remains uncertain. The airline is doing everything it can to help those passengers at the airport who checked in for flights on 26 December but were unable to get away.

Passengers who intend to travel to or from New York today are advised to check the airline’s website, www.cathaypacific.com, to get the latest flight information.

“We apologise to passengers for the disruption to their travel plans and we thank them for their patience and understanding,” a Cathay Pacific spokesperson said. “We are monitoring the situation closely and we’ll do everything we can to get passengers away as soon as we are able to operate flights again.”
