Flights to Hong Kong   

Everything you need to know about arriving in Hong Kong, from Hong Kong International Airport arrangements to  COVID-19 testing. 

We’re here to ensure your arrival into Hong Kong goes as smoothly as possible. For the most updated information please refer to the official GovHKOpen a new windowpage. If you are arriving in Hong Kong under the Return2HK Travel Scheme, please follow the guidelines set by airport staff.

Prior to your departure, complete the Hong Kong health declaration and quarantine form onlineOpen a new window and obtain a health declaration QR code.

Upon arrival, have the health declaration QR code ready. If you are arriving from overseas or Taiwan China, you will be guided to proceed to the registration and main testing area, government health officials will:

  • Scan the QR code from your completed Hong Kong health declaration form and check your ID.
  • Assign you a lanyard with a unique QR code and COVID-19 testing kit.

If you are arriving from the Chinese Mainland, you will be guided to proceed to the Temporary Specimen Collection Centre (TSCC). If you have not applied for Return2HKOpen a new window or Come2HKOpen a new window scheme, download the StayHomeSafe appOpen a new window on your phone, prior to landing in Hong Kong.

At the COVID-19 testing area, you will be assigned a booth where a combined nasal and throat swab will be taken by medical professionals. If you are arriving from overseas or Taiwan China, you will undergo a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) with professional specimen collection at the same time.

For passengers arriving from overseas or Taiwan China:

  • If you hold a green health declaration QR code, you will then proceed to the immigration, customs and baggage reclaim.
  • If you hold a pink health declaration QR code, you will be directed to proceed to T1 Midfield Concourse, where health officials will confirm you have a hotel reservation at one of the designated hotelsOpen a new window starting on the day of your arrival. You will then proceed to the immigration, customs and baggage reclaim.

For passengers arriving from the Chinese Mainland, the health officials will:

If you are arriving from overseas or Taiwan China, your quarantine form will be returned to you, upon receiving a negative result from your RAT, by the time you leave the baggage reclaim hall.

  • You will then be directed to proceed to the arrivals hall and to the transportation registration area. Keep your forms handy as– you will show these multiple times. You will not be allowed to take your own transport to the hotel. Dedicated transportation direct to your quarantine hotel will be provided. You will obtain your nucleic acid test result at your quarantine hotel.
  • If you receive a positive COVID-19 result, you will be guided by health officials on the next steps.

If you are arriving from the Chinese Mainland or Macao, you will wait between 2 and 4 hours. During this time:

  • You will not have access to your checked-in baggage.
  • You will be assigned a specific table and chair for the wait.
  • Your quarantine order will be kept by government officials while your test sample is analysed.
  • Bottled water and light snacks are available near the entrance to the waiting area. No hot water is available.
  • If you receive a negative result, your quarantine form will be returned to you. You will then be directed to board a shuttle bus to Terminal 1 for immigration, customs and baggage reclaim. Once you have your baggage, proceed to the arrivals hall and take your own transport for home quarantine. Keep your forms handy – you will show these multiple times.
  • If you receive a positive COVID-19 result, you will be guided by health officials on the next steps.

When you arrive at your designated quarantine hotel or home quarantine for those arriving from the Chinese Mainland or Macao:

  • Follow the instructions to walk around your room.
  • Measure and record your temperature twice a day.
  • You will also be asked to complete COVID-19 tests throughout your stay.
  • Activate your StayHomeSafe app to inform it that you have arrived, if you are arriving from the Chinese Mainland or Macao and required to undergo home quarantine.

Travel tips

Some useful tips for the arrival process into Hong Kong

Arrive early

We may have to contact Hong Kong Immigration to ensure that you are allowed into Hong Kong. Arrive 2-3 hours ahead of your flight. Some terminals and counters may be consolidated at certain airports.

Plan your luggage

You won't be able to access your baggage until leaving the airport. Make sure your carry-on baggage contains what you'll need. 

Bring a folder or bag

You will be given multiple forms and documents as you arrive, and these will be regularly checked. Make sure you have them easily available

Prep your phone and cash

Ensure you have a working number, and that you’ve downloaded the StayHomeSafe app. There is free Wi-Fi in the airport. Get your currency before you fly; if not there is an ATM by the baggage carousels.

Tips for the wait

Stay comfortable at T1 Midfield Concourse 

Stay powered

Make sure you have enough battery to get through the waiting period. Bring battery packs and make sure they are charged. 

Bring layers

The waiting area can get cold. Bring multiple layers to stay warm –and act as cushioning for your seat, as well.

Pack for kids

Pack a tent or portable playpen, which you will be able to use while waiting. For younger children, there is a nursing area in the waiting room.

Bring snacks

Bottled water and light snacks are available. Bring your own snacks – especially if you have dietary needs.
