Angsana Zhuhai Phoenix Bay

Best for: a wow-worthy location

It’s hard to find views like the ones at Angsana Zhuhai Phoenix Bay , an idyllic retreat that boasts the seclusion of a coastal resort while remaining accessible from the city centre. The complex unfolds over a series of Lingnan-style buildings, looking directly onto sandy beaches. Come sunset, the Shadow Lounge Bar takes full advantage of the property’s south-facing vantage.

Airy guest suites open onto balconies or gardens, while in front of them run a network of interconnected pools. The surrounding flora and fauna might make you feel like you’re deep in the wilds – yet the city lies just 7km down the coast. Meanwhile, a 6km journey north will take you to the historic Tangjia Town.

Hotel Indigo Zhuhai Xiangzhou

Best for: boutique vibes

Billed as a “lifestyle boutique hotel inspired by neighbourhood culture”, Hotel Indigo Zhuhai Xiangzhou melds trend with tradition in the centre of the lively Xinxiangzhou business district. Look out for homages to Zhuhai’s rich seafaring legacy in Lingnan brickwork and South East Asian-style shutters – subtle stylistic nods interspersed among the property’s bright colours and cosmopolitan feel.

The hotel’s ultra-convenient location places it adjacent to the Zhuhai National Fitness Centre and near the Uni Park and Midtown malls. There’s also easy access to the Zhuhai Pearl and Qianshan stations for further exploration – although the captivating views from the rooftop infinity pool might deter you from leaving in a hurry.

InterContinental Zhuhai

Best for: blissed-out border hopping

Located just over the border from Macao, Zhuhai’s Gongbei district is an accessible hotspot for visitors looking to dip into the Chinese Mainland for a dose of luxury on the go. Among the area’s top offerings is the InterContinental Zhuhai .

This hotel somehow feels serene and peaceful amid the throng, thanks in part to its vantage along the picturesque Qinglv South Road. Then, there are the sea and city views to be admired through floor-to-ceiling windows and from a pinch-me rooftop pool bar. Completing the hotel’s offerings is its trio of dining destinations: signature steakhouse Char Grill, all-day dining spot Commune and the spacious Bridge Lounge for unwinding after dark.

MGM Reserve Zhuhai

Best for: a natural oasis

Styled as a contemporary Lingnan garden mansion, MGM Reserve Zhuhai is an embodiment of the aspirational urban escape so many properties aim to create but few truly succeed at. Set around a lake and enveloped by natural greenery, the estate’s thoughtful courtyard layout fosters a sense of balance and symmetry. Meanwhile, its low-rise bungalows are sanctuaries of peace, designed to harmonise with the surrounding mountainous and aquatic topography. Luxury in the (almost) wilderness.

Best for: unabashed luxury

If you’re dreaming of a bygone era of luxury, check into The St Regis Zhuhai , where gilded furnishings, gleaming chandeliers and butler service are all part and parcel. The property sits on the waterfront of Wanzai, aka the “Chinese Riviera”, taking up 31 floors of the iconic 72-storey Zhuhai Tower. Its restaurants make the most of these elevated environs – visit the 42nd-floor Cantonese fine dining destination Yan Ting and 71st-floor classy Italian eatery LaBrezza for some of the best views in town.

This is also a great address to escape to with a loved one in tow; the spa's nine treatment rooms offer a romantic respite from city life in a sophisticated setting complete with marble floors, large windows and abundant natural light.

Zhuhai Imperial Hot Spring Resort

Best for: relaxing in peace

Founded back in 1997, the Zhuhai Imperial Hot Spring Resort counts itself among the first open-air hot spring resorts in the Chinese Mainland; it’s now well established in the GBA as a popular wellness getaway for groups and couples. The resort boasts several mineral-rich natural hot springs, plus a number of specialised pools and massage rooms. Meanwhile, its buildings draw on the Ryokan model, with rooms that channel a clean minimalism designed to help guests offload and unwind. This holistic outlook is further evident in the healthy “temple-style” dining options.
