Transiting through Hong Kong
General transit requirements
You will be able to transit through Hong Kong if:
- your itinerary is contained in a single booking;
- you meet the entry requirements of your final destination;
- your baggage is checked through to your onward destination;
- we can issue your onward boarding pass from your origin to your onward destination; and
- the connection time between your flights is within 24 hours.
Travelling to and from the Chinese Mainland
Entry requirements for passengers travelling from the Chinese Mainland who are ending their journey in Hong Kong can be found on the HKSAR Government website.
Transiting to destinations in the Chinese Mainland remains unavailable.
Current ferry services:
- Skypier "Sea-to-Air" ferry connections (Greater Bay Area to Hong Kong International Airport) are operating on a reduced schedule
- Air-to-Sea ferry connections (Hong Kong International Airport to the Greater Bay Area) remain suspended.

COVID-19 test reports
All passengers three years of age and over who are ending their journey in Hong Kong require a negative Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test report.
All test reports must be written in either English or Chinese and can be presented in paper or electronic format.
If the test report is not in English or Chinese or does not contain all the required information, it is acceptable to present a written confirmation, in English or Chinese, issued by the laboratory or healthcare institution that contains the following information:
- The name of the passenger;
- They underwent a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) based nucleic acid test for COVID-19,
- The sample for the PCR test was taken within 48 hours of the scheduled time of departure of the flight to Hong Kong; and
- The result of the PCR test for COVID-19 was negative
This written confirmation must be presented with the test report.
Passengers who are recovering from a COVID-19 infection
Alternative arrangements exist for customers who have been infected with COVID-19 in the 14 to 90 days prior to travel.
You may present:
1. A certificate issued by a medical practitioner or a recovery record issued by relevant authorities in Chinese or English showing that you were infected with COVID-19 in the 14 to 90 days prior to your direct flight to Hong Kong and have recovered. Your name on the documentary proof must match your travel documents.
2. A test report issued by a laboratory or healthcare institution in English or Chinese containing the following information:
- your name (please ensure this matches your valid travel document)
- that the test conducted is a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) test and that sample was taken within 24 hours before the scheduled departure time of your direct flight to Hong Kong
- that the RAT test result was negative for COVID-19
If the test report is not in English or Chinese or does not contain all the required information, you will need to present:
- a confirmation letter in English or Chinese issued by the laboratory or healthcare institution containing all of the above information must be presented with the test report

To be considered fully vaccinated, passengers must have received the full vaccine (as stipulated in the guidelines of a COVID-19 vaccination course) 14 days prior to the flight’s scheduled time of departure to Hong Kong.
The 14 days are counted from the day after receiving the last dose of the recommended course. For example, if the last dose was administered on 1 May, the 14th day would be on 15 May. This means a fully vaccinated passenger would be eligible to travel on any flight with a departure date of 15 May or later.
Passengers must present a “recognised” vaccination record that:
- is written in English or Chinese
- bears the passenger’s name
- states that they have received the required dose(s) of a COVID-19 vaccine
- states the date(s) on which the last dose was administered
- states the name of the vaccine administered
This can be presented in paper or an electronic format.
If a vaccination record is not written in English or Chinese:
- Passengers travelling from overseas places can also provide a written confirmation / letter in English or Chinese, issued by Hong Kong, or an authority or recognized institution of a place on the “list of places of issuance of recognised vaccination records”. This document must contain all of the above information and be presented with the official vaccination record
- Passengers travelling from Taiwan China can also provide a written confirmation/letter in English or Chinese, issued by relevant authorities or recognised institutions of the places where the vaccine was administered. This document must contain all of the above information and be presented with the official vaccination record
To protect the wellbeing of all passengers and our crew on board, all passengers aged two years and above must wear a surgical face covering when travelling with us at all times, including passengers using Cathay Pacific lounges.
Wearing a surgical face covering is also a requirement at Hong Kong International Airport. For other airports, we recommend that passengers check the relevant government websites.
For passengers using Cathay Pacific lounges located in countries where it is not a government requirement to wear a face covering, we ask passengers to continue wearing one when moving around the lounge as a courtesy to fellow guests.
Subject to any applicable laws, we’re unable to accept anyone not wearing a surgical face covering for travel.
