The best ways to get to Zhuhai from Hong Kong

Zhuhai is one of the most popular getaways in the Greater Bay Area, offering a laid-back seaside lifestyle and picture-perfect waterfront scenery. Overlooking the Zhujiang River Estuary, it shares a long, beautiful coastline with Macao.

So what’s the best way to travel from Hong Kong to Zhuhai? Here are the four best options. 

Hong Kong to Zhuhai via Hong Kong International Airport 

There are no flights connecting Hong Kong and Zhuhai – however, a number of other transport options are available for those arriving at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

Another easy way to travel from Hong Kong to Zhuhai is by taking the HZMB shuttle bus across the Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macao Bridge (HZMB).

1. From HKIA, you can reach the Hong Kong port using the airport bus network, or take New Lantau Bus route B4, which connects HKIA to the HZMB Hong Kong port. 

2. After arriving at the Hong Kong port, take the shuttle bus that crosses the border to Zhuhai via the HZMB.

The HZMB shuttle bus crossing typically takes about 40–50 minutes, making it one of the faster options between the two cities via the HZMB.

Travel from Hong Kong to Zhuhai by high-speed rail 

There’s no direct high-speed rail connection between Hong Kong and Zhuhai.

If you’re travelling from Hong Kong by train, you can connect via the mainland rail network – either through Shenzhen or via Guangzhou South.

Guangzhou South route

Take a train from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to Guangzhou South, then transfer to a high-speed train onward to Zhuhai. Departures from Hong Kong are frequent (typically around every 15 minutes), and the journey time is usually around an hour. Fares start from around HK$248 for second class, with higher prices for business class.  

After you arrive at Guangzhou South, follow the transfer signs for the next train to Zhuhai (often via Zhuhai Station). Ticket prices on booking platforms are usually shown in RMB, so it’s worth checking the final fare before you confirm.

Shenzhen route

From Shenzhenbei Station, hop on a connecting train that will bring you to Zhuhai Station in less than two hours. The exact length of the journey will depend on the class of train; classes “D” and “G” are preferred, taking you to your destination at speeds of up to 300km/h. Fares range from around HK$169 for second class to HK$472 for business class.

Travellers with Chinese Mainland phone numbers can purchase high-speed rail tickets via the Railway 12306 website  or app, up to 60 days in advance. Meanwhile, foreign passport holders can book via the English version of the website. 

Getting from Hong Kong to Zhuhai by ferry 

Another convenient option is a 70-minute Turbojet  ride starting at either the Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan or the China Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui. Tickets range from HK$200 for Economy class to HK$300 for Super class, which comes with privileges like a complimentary meal, newspapers, priority disembarkation and exclusive use of the waiting lounge.  

Getting from Hong Kong to Zhuhai by private car

Compared to cities like Guangzhou and Shenzhen, there are relatively few private buses running to Zhuhai.

The vehicle must also hold valid licenses and permits for both Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland to enjoy stays of up to 30 consecutive days upon entry, capped at 180 days within a year.
